Classroom Management Plan Realizing that classroom management can be one of the most challenging aspects of my new career,

I decided to experiment with many classroom management approaches during my student teaching experience to find one that fit both my students and myself. Based on these experiences, I designed a classroom management plan that I will implement in my classroom as a beginning teacher. It is important to note, however, that my classroom management philosophy will be evolving, as necessary, as I gain more experience and insight into the field of teaching. Also, my classroom management plan may need to be altered to fit my specific group of students. My classroom management approach will be student-centered, as I will help students to develop a sense of responsibility for their actions. The behavior standards in my classroom will be high and developmentally appropriate for the age I am teaching. The students will play a large role in creating the rules for our classroom community. Together, we will decide what is appropriate behavior for our classroom, and I will write these rules as positive statements to be displayed in the room. I will ensure that all students understand the expectations of our classroom. Students will be made aware of what the consequences will be for breaking the rules of our classroom community. I will strive to be firm, kind, and consistent in my approach to rules and rule breaking. My goal will be to create a calm, safe, and orderly classroom one in which my students and I can teach and learn from each other. As a teacher, it is important to establish classroom rules and procedures with the students. This includes them in the process and also helps them to be more responsible for their behavior. I will also establish fair consequences with my students. These may include coming before school, coming during lunch, staying after school, or doing extra work. Students will be held accountable by returning work that they give to me promptly and efficiently. It is part of being organized. Organized teachers show they care for their students, plan for their success, and analyze their work products and assessments. Students who feel cared for and valued as well as held accountable will behave better. I will establish a strong foundation with my students by being clear with my expectations of their behavior and what the consequences will be if they misbehave so that students become responsible for their own behavior. I will be consistent with the rules and procedures so that they become habits to the students. For example, having a specific handin spot for assignments at the front of the room and having specific directions for the class on the board before class begins (to get in specific groups, to start reading, or to think about a scenario at their tables). I will also stress to my students not to sharpen their pencil while I am teaching and when students finish a test to pick up the next assignment on the table and start working on it right away. By employing these procedures over and over, students will catch on and eventually these things wont require any prompting on my part. They will be instilled behaviors and habits. My classroom management approach will be a positive one. By using positive reinforcement and by creating positive relationships with my students, it will again eliminate many behavior issues before they occur. To effectively manage my classroom, I will employ techniques that reinforce good behavior and provide negative consequences for unacceptable behavior. I feel this is the most effective way for students to learn and behave correctly. Some techniques that I will employ in my classroom will include:

Make eye contact with a student who is misbehaving and show them you are aware of their behavior. Use a physical signal (i.e., shake my head) to tell a student their behavior is unacceptable. If a student is off task, I will state the desired behavior and remind them of what they should be doing. If a student continues to be off task, I will go over to the student and ask them quietly if they will stay after class. If a student is working well during class or has been working well all week, I will quietly tell them, you have been working very hard this week, great job! or you have some great responses on you assignments, keep it up! Using verbal and physical teacher reactions is a great way to reinforce behavior and eliminate bad behavior. The last important piece of my classroom management plan will be the positive teacher-student, student-student, and teacher-parent relationships that I foster. I plan to build a relationship with all parents of students in my classroom as well. I will welcome parent involvement, questions, and feedback. Developing positive relationships with students, staff, and parents is essential to being an effective teacher. To develop studentteacher relationships, I will get involved in extra-curricular activities, dances, assemblies, and other school events that need assistance. I will be available to my students before school, during lunch, and after school if needed. I will also take interest in my students and get to know them personally as early on as possible. If I am able to build trust with my students, I will be able to connect with them and work with them. Teaching and learning is a team effort and I feel it is essential to build a respectful, trustworthy relationship with my students as soon as possible in order to successfully teach them. I will gain students trust and respect by getting to know them from day one. I will greet and welcome my students into the classroom and be available to talk if they need it. I am very athletic and would love to help out with sports, or watch my students play sports. I feel this will really help me connect with some students. I will also make an effort to take interest into other students hobbies and interests. As a teacher, I will be enthusiastic about the subject and about my job, I will have empathy for my students and listen to them, and I will design engaging lessons.
