Performed a total of 129 surgeries including 2 cat flank spays, 16 kitten neuters, 12 cat neuters, 22 puppy neuters, 9 dog neuters, 11 kitten spays, 18 cat spays, 16 puppy spays, and 14 dog spays Assessed the conditions and protocols of individual shelters in order to decrease the incidence of disease and improve quality of life

Advanced Small Animal Surgery Elective Course

Summer 2013

Personally performed surgeries on live anesthetized dogs including nerve blocks, ceiliotomy, gastrotomy, gastropexy, enterotomy, small intestinal biopsy, serosal patch, resection and anastomosis, feeding tube placement, hepatic biopsy, pancreatic biopsy, lymph node biopsy, renal biopsy, nephrectomy, cystotomy, splenectomy, urethrostomy, episiotomy, pharyngotomy, oronasal fistula repair, tail amputation, palate resection, tonsillectomy, laryngeal examination, lip surgery, and aural hematoma repair Also completed a perineal urethrostomy, thyroidectomy, colectomy, and onychectomy (scalpel) on an anesthetized cat Performed multiple procedures on cadavers including surgical approaches to the hip, stifle, femur, shoulder, and elbow, femoral fracture repair, intramedullary pinning, cerclage wire placement, external fixator application, autogenous cancellous bone grafting, digit amputation, femoral head and neck ostectomy, extracapsular stabilization, trochlear recession techniques, tibial crest transposition, perineal hernia approach (obturator lift), aural surgery (TECA), tracheostomy, salivary gland resection, and skin plastics procedures

Vets-In-The-Wild Study Abroad

Spent three weeks in South Africa taking part in game capture operations, performing necropsies, and studying wildlife management and conservation alongside veterinarians in both local townships and in nature reserves
