    Chipmunks are small rodents found in forests and woodlands in North America and Asia. There are 17 different species of chipmunks that hibernate in burrows for the winter months and can live up to 3 years in the wild. Chipmunks are only 5-7 inches long with a bushy tail that is 3-5 inches long, weigh 1-3 ounces, and have gray-brown fur with dark and light stripes. They store nuts, seeds, grains and fruits in their burrows using their cheek pouches and are preyed on by weasels, hawks, snakes, foxes and house cats.
