Dear Madam or Sir,
The International Student Scientific Conference (ISSC) is the largest
annual student, scientific event at the Medical University of Gdańsk.
The ISSC attracts attendees from all medical faculties in Poland, as
well as many student participants from abroad. It is also our honor to
host many scientists from the Medical University of Gdansk, invited
speakers and distinguished world-renowned scientists, including
prof. Vladimir Petrovich Skulachev (Russia), prof. Ewa Bobber
(Germany), prof. Lucedio Greci (Italy) and prof. Enrico Bertoli (Italy).

Over the course of three days, the

ISSC will include 12 independent
scientific sessions, special guest
lectures, instructional workshops,
and discussion groups. The
conference will culminate with an
award ceremony and a festive
farewell banquet.

The Student Scientific Society

The ISSC is organized by the Student Scientific Society at the Medical

University of Gdańsk, an organization of over 50 years of tradition, the
past presidents of which include now distinguished scientists: prof.
Andrzej Myśliwski, prof. Andrzej Kopacz, prof. Jerzy Lasek, prof. Jacek
Witkowski, prof. Janusz Moryś and prof. Jacek Bigda.

The Society brings together over 700

students representing all the departments
of the University. These young scientists are
energetic members of more than 70
scientific study-groups active in virtually
every faculty and clinic of the University. The
Society's mission is to promote scientific
research and the cooperation among
medical students, as well as to assist in the
planning of and fund-raising for student
research projects.

The Society's website, www.stn.amg.gda.pl, contains up-to-date

information about the activities of the various scientific study-groups,
other student scientific conferences around the world, available
scholarships and research grants. Subscribers receive important
information in our bulletin, “Kurier STN".

The Student Scientific Society is registered with the

National Judicial Registry and has a legal status as
a non-profit organization. Thus, all projects and
other operations of the Society rely on the
membership fees and the generous support it
receives from its sponsors.

History
The first review of student scientific research took place in Gdansk in
1959 led by prof. Andrzej Mysliwski, a medical student at the time, and
the current head of the Department of Histology. The conference was
recognized as a great success and became an academic tradition.

Over time, the event evolved into the

International Student Scientific
Conference, which is now entering its
16th year of annual operation, and
has become the premier venue for
students interested in presenting their
work. Not only is the growing
popularity of the Conference a
testament to its prestige, but also an
indication of growth in student
research.

Every year, the ISSC is host to many foreign students from countries
such as Sweden, Finland, Slovakia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Romania,
Russia, Bulgaria, Germany, Canada, Czech Republic and Iran.

Opportunities
Participation in the 16th International Student Conference for students
and young doctors provides direct access to:

Medical students: through the close co-operation between the ISSC

and "Medykalia", a student festival with participants from all Tri-City
universities.

Biotechnology students: MSc students from the Intercollegiate

Department of Biotechnology of the Medical University of Gdansk and
the University of Gdansk present their thesis research at the
biochemistry scientific session.

PhD candidates: at the PhD and MSc students' report session

Doctors: many professors and doctors from the Medical University of

Gdansk, as well as other leading academic centers in Poland and
abroad, participate as jury members, panelists, and lecturers.

This year's ISSC is expected

to attract over 400
