Feed back to the student

I cannot agree with you more. Sometimes it is too easy to let the issues of a small percentage of the students overwhelm us and we forget there are so many more students who need to be recognized both in the school and in the public. Briefly describe this field-based internship experience, including your specific role (1/2 page). One way I have demonstrated promoting high expectations for learning and the recognition of students is through our Partners in Education (PIE) program at West High. The PIE program connects students with the school and community to recognize and promote the achievements of our students. My role has been to help select students who are deserving of this honor and present their accomplishments to members of the business community. Each teacher in our academy must nominate one student of an assigned grade level, and if that student is picked we must write up their accomplishments and reasons for being selected. These students are recognized by the principal in front of members of the community (typically business members) at a special lunch celebration at a restaurant during their normal lunch time. This is done twice each year for our academy and several students that I have nominated have been selected for this honor. Students and teachers think highly of this program as this is one of the few ways we get to recognize our students for their accomplishments and let them know how proud we are of them. The validation students feel for their success allows them to continue working hard toward their goals. Other students see this recognition and are inspired to work harder themselves. Reflect on what you have learned from this experience, from mentor discussions, and how you will use this learning in future administrative leadership roles (no more than 1/2 page). I really enjoy nominating and writing the letter to our Partners in Education (PIE) to recognize my students. We often end up spending most of our time and effort on just a few of our problem students and often forget to recognize the accomplishments of the many great and talented students we have in our school. As a principal I need to continue this tradition (or something similar) in my school because this is great for building the climate and culture of a school. This can even be taken a step further to recognize the accomplishments of the teachers as they too enjoy being noticed for their hard work and dedication to students and the school. The principal is ultimately responsible for setting the tone in a building through a strong climate and culture within the school. One of the best ways to do this is to continually promote high expectations by recognizing those students who meet and exceed expectations. Unfortunately most schools often spend more time discussing how they can take care of their problems instead of spending time recognizing the great things that happen in our schools every day.
