Assessment Task: Lifestyle Diseases Oral Presentation Date Issued: Monday 3rd March 2014 Assessment Type: Oral Presentation Due Date: Monday 27th March 2014

Purpose: Lifestyle diseases are generally caused by choices that have been made by the person with the disease or illness it is affecting. They can be caused and prevented by changes in diet, environment and lifestyle. There are many diseases which fall into the category of lifestyle diseases, the leading causes of lifestyle disease are due to; a lack of exercise, improper diet, poor health management or lack of access to health facilities. You may choose one of the following lifestyle diseases below or a lifestyle disease of your choice negotiated with your teacher. Examples of Lifestyle Disease; Heart disease, obesity, stroke, cancer (eg. lung, throat, etc), Liver disease (eg. cirrhosis), diabetes (type 2), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Nephritis, Alzheimers Disease, Arteriosclerosis, asthma (environmentally contributed), osteoporosis, hypertension, depression (drug related), Sexual Transmitted Infections (STIs) (eg. herpes, chlamydia, syphilis). Description of Assessment: You are to research a lifestyle disease and present your findings to the class in an oral presentation that will be 5 minutes long and supported by a medium such as a Weebly Page, PowerPoint, brochure or handout. The areas that you must include, but you are not limited to, are; 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Choose and define your lifestyle disease. What are the precursors/causes the disease? What are the symptoms of the disease? What are the choices in lifestyle that may have led to the disease? What are some choices in lifestyle that may prevent or reduce the risk of the disease? Eg. Dietary, exercise and medical options. What are some ways the lifestyle diseases can be reduced or treated? Other information (Eg. community programs / laws / etc). Provide a reference List (Harvard author date) for all information. Also include facts, figures & pictures.

Assessment conditions:
The presentation should be a maximum of 800 words in multimodal form and a maximum of 5minutes for the oral presentation. If you wish, you can negotiate with the teacher if you would like to record your oral presentation or present to a small audience. Appropriate headings and referencing should be acknowledged, including texts, images and diagrams according to Harvard referencing. This assignment should contain no material which has been submitted for another assessment or by another student and to the best of your knowledge and belief it contains no material previously published or written by another person except when due reference is made in the text
