Accountability Paper Shemika Williams October 15, 2013 Sharon Williams

In the healthcare industry people think it is just about taken care of patients and making sure that they are getting the proper treatments, medications, and overall evaluations. Behind the scenes when patients are not a part of the process, managers and employees have to follow expectations and answerabilities. Leaders have the responsibility of ensuring that all employees are held accountable for products, policies and products. Accountability can have some common traits of people reaching their goals as well. Accountability is an important aspect of any job and organization. Processes and procedures are measures taken within accountability. Employees are also held responsible if things go wrong. There are several things that falls in line with being held accountable from medical malpractices, cost, and production. In healthcare, blame will be put upon people on a daily basis because either patients or employees will see some wrong doings in others in the workplace. Some think that if they do not justify their actions then it is okay, but in reality it is not and actions must be taken to rectify the situation. In healthcare you will find that accountability will be more crucial than any other job or anything in life because lives are at stake. Accountability should always be on the forefront and be taken care of as soon as situations occur. In order for employers to measure the accountability of the employees they must know how it will impact the organization. Once that is known then they must involve them in the learning process by having them to show how they know the job that they are working on, they should also show enthusiasm when in the work place. Motivation is also a requirement and must be shown while duties are being done. In any jobs there must be standards that are in place for everyone to follow, they must also meet the requirements in order for accountability to stick. These requirements must be above achieving levels and should be in place long before the accountability phase begin. Employees must go through evaluation on a yearly routine so that

they are not out of compliance. Managers must constantly work to improve employees performances because this will leave little room for mistakes and they will know what to do without being told. There should be regular feedback on how things are going with training and knowledge of what they are accountable for. Successful checks and balances are when a company has made money and it is coming in like it should and there are no discrepancies. Accountability will be upon everyone including the people in charge. This is a democracy system and if run successfully then it will be shown as the foundation. (Progressive Building Media, 2013). Sales and being productive is also a part of this system and if leaders are following the system according to the plans then being on top is automatic. This system also is in a design where it will have mangers to ask the right questions, any uncertainties that are there will not be because it will have an answer to it. If things are not going according to the plan then some will be unsure and the accountability will begin and things will spiral out of control. As long as there is a strong check and balance system then the company will be in regulation and people will know what standards they should be going by instead of guessing what it is. When people are held accountable then the workforce will know that the rules are in place for a reason and not just to be there. Some should get out of thinking they will not get in trouble for it and keep in mind that there is always room to get in trouble if the guidelines are not done. Accountability has a large region in the healthcare workforce and people are being held accountable for not doing what they should and organizations are becoming better at meeting the needs of the people they are caring for and making the culture a much better place to work and live in and in return it makes honest employees. Some ways that positive relationships can maintain themselves are by communication. When things are put out in the open then everyone will know what to expect and know the rule

without little or no hesitation. Training is also something that will keep relationships intact and any attitudes or disagreements will be very minimal. All people should remain on top of their task and constant learning should always be first priority. Respect is a major portion also, people should listen to opinions of others but by no means should they be disrespectful of others. Integrity is something else that will control positive attitudes and people not forming negative thought processes because as long as ones are honest it will leave room for no disrespect. People are quick to place the blame on people without getting information or only knowing little of it, but if people would just respect one another then the working culture will be a much better place because everyone will know what to expect from others. In conclusion, accountability does not work only in healthcare, but it revolves around people daily lives. When wrong is done then one must be held accountable for it no matter what the circumstances may be. Physicians and nurses are always in lawsuits because patients will sue for negligence or employees will sue because if mistreatment. This does not exclude anyone when it comes to who has done wrong and why they did it. Employees must be responsible for all actions and take all consequences that will follow. Everyone will be affected in some way in the workplace. As long as the checks and balance system is positive then that means that no one is left out from being held accountable for things they have done wrong. Attitudes goes a long way and when they are good you will get results of things in the organization going in the right direction and when they are negative then you will see tempers and placing the blame on others will likely be seen within this and avoiding it will be the best thing to do in the situation.
