PLANNING INFORMATION A. Effectivity (1) PRODUCTS: LM6000 PA Uprate, PB Uprate, PC, PD, and PF models (2) ENGINE SERIAL NUMBERS: LM6000 PA Uprate gas turbines , serial numbers 185-002, 185-103, 185-107, 185-116, 185-119, 185-122, 185-123, 185-132, 185-145, 185-160 through 185-163, 185-166, 185-169, 185-171, 185-174, 185-191, 185-198, 185-203, 185-205, 185-207, 185-218, 185-220 through 185-224, 185-229, 185-231, 185-232, 185-234 through 185-238, are affected by this Service Bulletin. LM6000 PB Uprate gas turbines, serial numbers 190-801, 190-803, and 190-815, are affected by this Service Bulletin. LM6000 PC gas turbines, serial numbers 191-101 through 191-648, are affected by this Service Bulletin. LM6000 PD gas turbines, serial numbers 192-101 through 192-274, are affected by this Service Bulletin.
LM6000 PF gas turbines, serial numbers 192-400 through 192-408, are affected by this Service Bulletin. B. Reason (1) Objective: The purpose of this Service Bulletin is to introduce an improved low pressure turbine shaft coupling nut (LPT coupling nut), PN L61437P01. This LPT coupling nut has been improved with new INCO 718 material. (2) Condition/Event(s): The current coupling nut material, MARAGE 250, is susceptible to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) if the engine is not operated for extended periods and recommended preservation practices are not adhered to. (3) Cause: Engines that are improperly stored or engines with extended periods of non-operation at locations with a corrosion-favorable environment (such as high humidity and/or coastal locations) are at risk of corrosion.

Improvement: The proposed coupling nut material, INCO 718, is not susceptible to corrosion. The improved LPT coupling nut will not experience the current corrosion and field cracking issue.

Description This Service Bulletin provides instructions to replace the LPT coupling nut.

Compliance Category: Campaign (C) Level: Field/Depot (F/D) Timing Code: 2, 5
GE recommends that this Service Bulletin be accomplished at first opportunity (next Periodic Inspection or shutdown at latest) for engines improperly stored or engines with extended periods of non-operation at locations with a corrosion-favorable
environment (such as high humidity and/or coastal locations). If you have these risk factors, you are at heightened risk for a high cost event. If you have any doubt, then contact your GE representative immediately. GE recommends that this Service Bulletin be accomplished at component part exposure for all other units. GE recommends accomplishing SB LM6000-IND-0240 concurrently with this Service Bulletin. E. Manpower Approximately 4 man-hours are required to incorporate this Service Bulletin. This does not include time required to remove engine from package and reinstall. F. Tooling Ensure all tooling required by technical manual procedures referenced in ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS is on hand prior to performing this Service Bulletin. G. Material Requirements (1) The following materials are required to accomplish this Service Bulletin: Part Number L61437P01 Nomenclature Nut, Coupling, LPT Quantity (1)
Ensure all materials required by technical manual procedures referenced in the ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS are on hand prior to performing this Service Bulletin.

Material Interchangeability Physical interchangeability is not affected by this Service Bulletin. Functional interchangeability is affected by this Service Bulletin because the new nut is less susceptible to corrosion cracking.

NOTE
The LPT coupling nut has a one time use restriction.
NOTE
The referenced work packages (WP) that follow, apply to GEK 105059 for LM6000 PA uprate and PC models, GEK 105061 for LM6000 PB uprate and PD models, and GEK 112743 for LM6000 PF models.
NOTE
A drop check is not required for replacement of the LPT coupling nut when the LPT module is not removed. A. B. Remove engine from package per packager's manual. For field accomplishment, replace LPT coupling nut as follows: (1) Remove LPT coupling nut, PN L47804P01, per WP 2710 00 (steps 6.A through 6.H, except step 6.G). Discard nut. Install new LPT coupling nut, PN L61437P01, per WP 2710 00 (steps 9.G through 9.T, except step 9.K).

For depot accomplishment, replace LPT coupling nut as follows: (1) Remove LPT coupling nut, PN L47804P01, per GEK 98492, chapter 9C. Discard nut. Install new LPT coupling nut, PN L61437P01, per GEK 98492, chapter 9C.

Install engine in package and realign per packager's manual.
III. COMPLIANCE RECORD Compliance with this Service Bulletin must be entered in local records. The attached Service Bulletin Compliance Record form must be completed and returned to the address indicated on the compliance form.
