Introduction
Data mining is the computational process of discovering patterns in large data sets involving methods at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistics, and database systems. There are many applications in data mining that can be used in real world problem, such as in construction. Construction is a process that consists of the building or assembling of infrastructure. Far from being a single activity, large scale construction is a feat of human multitasking. Normally, the job is managed by a project manager, and supervised by a construction manager, design engineer, construction engineer or project architect.

Data Mining in Construction

There are two data mining model & task which is predictive and descriptive. We can relate this to construction application. In construction, it is important to collect data as much as possible in order to avoid error in the construction that can be fatal. The data must be accurate and useful. The developers must consider many factors such as weather, traffic, population density and others. For predictive model, it can make prediction about values of data and concentrate more to input output relationship. As example, we cannot predict the weather to be 100% correct but they can use the data to make a prediction and finally can decide whether it is suitable to do the construction. Even the weather forecast is not 100% sure about the weather for the near future. The data gathered must be from a trusted party. This is to ensure the data collected does not have any misleads and frauds and the quality of the data is protected. The developers can store the data from previous construction into data warehouse for future references use. There are 3 tools that can analyze the data that is report/query tools, OLAP tools and data mining tools.
