Justification Statement for the Idaho Teaching Standards This is an example of a Running Record that I created in my FCS 235,

Principles and Methods of Observing Child Development class. This Running Record example describes in great detail the social development of a child over a time span of five minutes. During these five minutes the child demonstrated they respond to others and follow community routines. This running record can be used in a group of social development observations to gain more insight on the childs overall assessment. This demonstrates how I meet Idaho Standards for Blended Early Childhood/Early Childhood Special Education Teachers: Standard 8: Assessment of Student Learning Knowledge 2: The educator knows that developmentally appropriate assessment procedures reflect childrens behavior over time and rely on regular and periodic observations and record keeping of childrens everyday activities and performance.

Center/classroom: UI Children Center: Dark Blue Room 4 to 6 Year Olds Child/Age: G1/ 5.0 Setting: Snack Time Time: 2:39 Running Record: G1 takes her left hand to get four crackers out of the community cracker bowl; she picks up each cracker by placing her four fingers on top of the cracker and scoping the cracker up with her thumb. Here you go, G1 says and passes the tongs to 2:41 G4. G1 pours the milk into her cup using her left hand, fingers and thumb wrapped around the handle of the milk pitcher and her thumb wrapped the other way facing up and her right hand wrapped around the cup to hold the cup down. Stops pouring 2:43 before milk reaches the top of the cup. I have a huge one, G4 says facing G1. G4 is raising her arms together. I can do that too, G1 says. And look 1, 2, 3, 2:44 touching her middle fingertips together, fully extending her arms over her head, so that the inside of her elbows are touching her ears. G1 picks up a cracker with her four fingers on top of the cracker and her thumb placed underneath and eats her cracker while looking at G3 and G4, who are engaged in conversation. G3 you have dance, G1 says pointing at G3 with her arm fully extended out in front of her pointing with her index finger. G1 says, You have dance today cause I have dance too. Inference: Responds to others (social development). Follows community routines (social development).
