TRANSITion SerVICes For ALL AGes

Our transition services are provided to our pre-school students who are about to enter the school age program and for our school age students who are about to enter the work force. Both programs provided informational meetings for the parents, staff, and student. We also encourage and provide Open House times for the students to get to tour the school, the sheltered workshop, activity center, and local community businesses. Our goal is to provide a transition to a new program with as little disruption to your childs schedule as possible.

Open Door School serves the seven local school districts of Lawrence County. Our goal is to educate students with multiple disabilities and provide, to the greatest extent possible, programs, services, and supports that allow our students to choose and achieve a life of increasing capability so they might live, work, and learn in an environment of their choice; to promote their health and safety; and to empower and support these students and their families in achieving these goals. We serve children ages 5-22. Our curriculum is based on the Ohio Extended Content Standards for all content areas along with daily living, job to work , and community skills. Our program has speech and language therapy, adaptive physical education, occupational and physical therapy, and integrated experiences with local school districts and community collaboration.

WHaT to EXPECT FROM OPEN DOoR

TEACHInG PROfesSionALS
Open Door has 7 - 8 classrooms depending on enrollment numbers. Each classroom has a fully certified teacher from ODE and a certified para-professional. The classrooms contain 8 students with the possibility of having an overload of 9 students, only in extreme circumstances, that will be approved by ODE. Some of our students are provided with a personal one-on-one aide or para-professional that is provided by the home school district. These aides are all licensed by ODE. Staff also have the opportunity to be trained in CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention).
