CAMELLIA SINENSIS AS ALTERNATIVE INK ABSTRACT: The investigators research is all about ink. The main ingredient of their product is teabag which is empowered by the following ingredients: Vinegar, corn starch and water. The research highly aims to find an alternative source of ink which can help us on our daily lives. This is very helpful to those who are very resourceful. Furthermore the researchers aim to develop an alternative source of ink that can lessen the money usage in buying replacement inks for your pen products or any kind of material that requires ink. Though this investigatory project still recommends some improvement, this will and can be very useful to some artists who wants to try a different way of painting which will cost them less money and this is very safe to kids because this is a non-toxic ink. CHAPTER I Introduction They thought of using teabags as an alternative ink. A tea bag is a small, porous sealed bag containing tea leaves and used with water for brewing the beverage called tea, or herbs or spices for brewing tisanes (also known as "herbal tea"). Tea bags are commonly made of filter paper, silk or food grade plastic. The bag contains the tea leaves while the tea is steeped, making it easier to dispose of the leaves, and performs the same function as a tea infuser. Some tea bags have an attached piece of string with a paper label at the top that assists in removing the bag while also displaying the brand and/or variety of tea. The cornstarch is a fine, powdery starch that is made out of corn. The cornstarch is actually made from the endosperm of the corn. Cornstarch, also sometimes called corn flour, is produced by grinding, washing and drying the endosperm of the corn until

INVESTIGATORY PROJECT it reaches that fine, powdery state. Cornstarch is gluten free. Based on some research, this can contribute on the consistency of making an ink. The vinegar is a sour-tasting liquid containing acetic acid, obtained by fermenting dilute alcoholic liquids, typically wine, cider, or beer, and used as a condiment or for pickling. Vinegar can help to strengthen the color of the ink based on some articles that the researchers have read that is why they chose this as one of the materials to use.

Background of the Study The tea is created by using leaves of a plant known Camellia Sinensis. This plant is native mainland China. South and Southeast Asia, tea drinking can be traced back to the 10th century BC in China before it was spread to Korea and Japan. This tea is made by brewing tea leaves to create an extract. This project aims to create cheaper, Eco-friendly, and non-toxic ink. As we know, teas are commonly found around our society. To expand the possibilities of using tea bags, the researchers made this investigatory project. Statement of the Problem This study will be conducted to know the effectiveness of the said product that is why they came up with the following problems: Can corn starch contribute to achieving the right consistency of the ink? What would be the effect of vinegar to the color of the ink?

Formulation of Hypothesis If the solution corn starch and vinegar are added to the mixture then the output would not have a stronger color and thicker consistency than the ordinary ink. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY The importance of this study is help people to afford an alternative and cheap ink because nowadays certain commodities have been steadily arising. On a larger scale, the government can even commercialize the proposed alternative which can be an added source of income for the people. This way, our country doesnt have to import for the common ingredients of ink". Scope and Limitation

INVESTIGATORY PROJECT The researchers are only limited through making the simple ink from the teabags. It is only on how they will make the ink and also with the materials or solutions that they will use to obtain their proposed ink product. It does not include inks that are used in machines such as printers, copiers, etc. only markers and paints. They will have a budget for the materials and all the equipment that they will be using for the said project. DEFINITION OF TERMS CHAPTER II RRL There are some studies that are conducted that helped the researchers to have enough knowledge about their study. In line with this, a study was conducted about making ink from charcoal and engine oil to produce an alternative whiteboard marker. They would like to find out the difference between a commercial and alternative whiteboard ink. The research is also to prove the affordability of the white board marker. They found out that there are differences between the two namely the intensity and the color of it. The next research is about using the extract of ube, atsuete and duhat and they also aim to produce an ecofriendly ink. They wanted to prove that every creation that God made have its purpose and have its use. They wanted to make this kind of study to create a cheaper ink because these days, the prices of certain items are expensive and this affects the people in the community like the students. They stated here that you have to boil it to be able to produce its dark violet color while atsuete will produce its color when they soaked in water. Last but not the least, they will peel the duhats skin or use the whole fruit. The last research they found was a study about making ink from berries. They stated here that they can use different kinds of berries to produce different kinds of colors. First, they put the berries in a pot, mashing it down. Then they added vinegar as a preservative to it and they let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes. When it is cool already they strained it many times to have a nice ink that doesnt have any particles in it. They did this project to tell everybody that berries can be used to make inks and it affects the color of the final product. Camellia Sinensis - the scientific name of the plant used to create tea. Arising- To get up as from a sitting or prone position: rise. Consistency- Agreement or logical coherence among thing or parts.

With this, they would need to collect and gather data for their observations. Materials: 7 teabags 1 cups of water 1 tablespoon of vinegar Cornstarch Strainer and fork bottle

Procedure: Experimental Set-up 1. Prepare all the materials needed. 2. In cups of boiling water, place the 7 teabags. 3. Create the tea for 6-8 minutes. 4. Remove the teabags from the boiling water, using a strainer and a fork remove all extracts. 5. While stirring the tea, add a tablespoon of vinegar.

INVESTIGATORY PROJECT 6. While stirring the tea, add a tablespoon of vinegar. 7. Continue to stir it. Add as much dissolved cornstarch as you need to have your desired consistency. 8. Remove it from the heat and let it cool. When done, store in a bottle. CONTROLLED SET-UP 1. Prepare all the materials needed. 2. Place the 7 teabags in 1 cups of boiling water 3. Create the tea for 6-8 minutes 4. Remove the teabags from the boiling water. Use a strainer and a fork remove all the extracts. 5. Remove it from the heat and let it cool. When done, store in a bottle.

Chapter IV Date and Results: Researchers product: Is it effective in: Painting Writing Out lining Printing Plastics Commercial Ink: Is it effective in: Painting Writing Outlining Printing Plastics Interpretation of data: In the data that the researcher had, the said product could be used for painting, drawing, writing, outlining and others. The product of the experiment wont just work on machineries like printers, typewriters, and others. It also didnt work on plastics. On the other hand, the commercial ink worked on all but not in painting because it is quick drying so you cant spread your ink anymore. Observation: The researchers are successful on their experiment. In doing the experiment, the researchers found out that vinegar can strengthen the color of the tea while the corn starch improves the consistency of the product. The vinegar is also used for the product to comply more with the paper. It also needs to be boiled longer for the tea to be more extracted more. Recommendation/s: Result No Yes Yes Yes Yes Result Yes Yes Yes No No

INVESTIGATORY PROJECT The researchers recommend that if the outcome or result of the experiment is wishywashy; add more corn starch to be used as a thickening agent. The researchers also recommend boiling the tea longer for better results of extraction. In addition, the researchers also prescribe dissolving the corn starch first in cold/warm water to avoid it from forming chunks. Cause and Effect: Because of the use of cornstarch, the product became gooier. Because of the use of vinegar, the color of tea strengthens and it helped for the product to comply more on paper. Because of the use of the longer boiling minutes of the tea, it helped to have better result of extraction.
