Subject: Online Catalog Workshop University freshman Topic: Searching Online Catalogs

Course: Online Catalog workshop is an introductory program for university freshman on how to effectively utilize the university librarys online catalogue. Searching the online catalogue includes logging into the library on campus and off, search techniques, and finding the materials discovered online in the library. Introduction: 1. Introduce myself 2. Give contact information 3. Explain purpose of workshop Goals: Students should be able to know how to use the online catalog. Objectives: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Log into the library catalog on campus and off Perform a known item search Perform a key word search Conduct searches using different search techniques Request materials from the library

Content Outline: 1. 2. 3. 4. Bring up library catalog Show how to log into catalog Explain the difference between known item search and key word search Show the students some different search practices and allow them to review the results from the different types of searches i.e Boolean logic. 5. Give students a chance to perform their own known item and key word searches

6. I will pass out a guided question worksheet to help students think out there search process and write down how they go about conducting their searches. 7. Question and answer time Summary and Review 1. After each section briefly review what had been taught and insure that all participants understand the content 2. Reiterate all material covered 3.
