Name: Tomasek, Megan Classification: Prob. 1st Yr. Observed by: Anders Hill Observation Date: Thursday, October 3, 2013, 1:30 PM Comments 1:31:03 PM 1:32:16 PM Activity Transition Comments Fourth grade students come in to room. Ms. Tomasek reminds them to get what they need. Waiting for second student in reading group. Ms. Tomasek reviews directions with student and gets him started. Students are engaged. Second student comes in sits down and gets to work. Good use of positive reinforcement. Room is extremely organized and inviting. Third student comes in and she gets him set up to work. Ms. Tomasek is very comfortable with technology and has I-Pad centers with good apps targeted to students. Ms. Tomasek works with the two students to review answers. All students sit on Swiss balls. Students work phonics sounds. The two students Ms. Tomasek is working with are using the intervention Phonics for Reading. Ms. Tomasek gets a students paper printed while her group practiced sounds. Effective use of time. Ms. Tomasek has built a great rapport with her students. Good use of positive reinforcement. Ms. Tomasek uses magic reading finger to motivate reading, very creative. Students both participate. It is apparent that students enjoy being in the resource room. Ms. Tomasek is very prepared, no down time. She uses a timer to keep her on track. Good use of positive reinforcement. Changing centers. She reminds students where the I-Pad apps for the day they should be working at is listed. Ms. Tomasek gets a new group of two students for Phonics for Reading, her last group moved to I-pad center and the other group is working leveled reading with Mrs. Williams. Students are engaged. Are the groups working different skills? Ms. Tomasek has students try reading again if errors occur, it is apparent that she has normalized making errors and students are very comfortable with trying again and correcting errors. Questions help students make judgments on past and present tense. Ms. Tomasek has students take multiple bounces on the ball between activities. Rotating to new center.

Ms. Tomasek gets two new students. Ms. To ask gets her group working before she leaves to help another student. Effective use of time. Students are engaged. Good use of positive reinforcement. Ms. To ask has created a science exploration room in her office area for students with extra time.

Great motivator.

Conclusion: I was very impressed with the environment and culture youve created in your class. It is apparent youve worked very hard. I also was impressed with your preparation. Questions to Consider Is the program we are using the best for students or would some benefit from push-in support? Is this possible?
