September 22, 2013 To Whom It May Concern: I have an extremely high regard for Edith Miguel, both as a student and as an individual. I had the great pleasure of teaching Edith for the past 3 years, and have known her ever since September 2010. In 2010, when the school first opened, Edith was in my Geometry class. Even though, Edith was very quiet and reserved, the quality of her work spoke volumes. At that point I knew that Edith was one of the most dedicated and successful students in the school. She embodies exactly what we are looking for in a student: mature, motivated, hard working, and respectful. In 20112012, Edith was in my Algebra 2 class and showed me once again that the first year wasnt a fluke. She clearly showed that she could grasp ahold of the higher-level math with no problem. Last year, Edith was in my Math Analysis Honors class. In Math Analysis Honors, Edith continued to prove to me, how intellectually capable she was. I distinctly remember many of her projects, including her CSI Trig Identities Project, her Algebra 2 Experts Project, and her Trig Functions Facebook Project, which she did particularly well on. Though, above all of that, Edith consistently performed well on the tests and quizzes. It is much more common for students perform the worst on tests and quizzes, but Edith has an unbelievable work ethic and she studies more for tests and quizzes that any of her peers. This year, Edith is in my AP Calculus and will be in my AP Economics class second semester. In Calculus, Edith knows it is not going to be easy, but she is accepting the challenge, and entering the class with the perfect mindset. She is not afraid to ask questions, when she does not understand a concept at first, and again her amazing study habits and work ethic could help her pass the AP Calculus test in May. Throughout the summer Edith was actually contacting me, asking me questions on how to prepare for calculus. Edith has had a very difficult past. Edith had to overcome a one of the most traumatic obstacles that anyone could ever go through when she was 13 years old, and she has recovered to become the strong, confident woman she is now, which gives me an indescribable amount of respect for her. This year Edith is really coming out of her shell and participating in all senior activities, and she is showing the great amount of leadership potential that she has inside of her. Edith deserves every bit of recognition that she receives, because she is one of those rare students who inspire you with her deep intrinsic motivation. Edith knows that college is very real to her, and the thought of higher education gives her even greater strength to continue to become, not just the best student, but also the best person possible. Edith is one of those few students who is class and in school for all of the right reasons. She is mature well beyond her years, and she sees the enormous value of education, including its long-term benefits. I have an unbelievable amount of respect for her character and maturity. People want to be around her, because she makes everyone else around her that much better. From my vast experience working with Edith, I recognize the amount of potential she has moving forward in any post-secondary institution or beyond. As a result, I recommend Edith Miguel to you enthusiastically, without reservation, and hope you will consider her application favorably. I believe she will continue to flourish academically and socially in an intellectually stimulating college-community, and any college campus will benefit from her presence. Sincerely, Collin Felch Lead Teacher/Math Teacher 2012-2013 LAUSD Teacher of the Year Ambassador School of Global Leadership 701 S Catalina St Los Angeles, CA 90005
