After the assistance from France who helped the british surrender, Americans won their independence at 1779 and the proper fighting ended at 1783.

Triggers and Tensions: ! Building between colonists and the British authorities ! British gov attempted to raise revenue by taxing the colonies which heated the whole issue up BOSTON MASSACRE 1770: British soldiers opened fire on a mob of colonists killing five men. The Boston Massacre occurred on March 5, 1770. Three people were killed and two died later from serious injuries and wounds The Boston Massacre is one of the key events that helped trigger and shock the colonial public to the Patriot cause American minutemen: People who lived in the city who could get into uniform and be ready to fight in a minute or two when someone yells THE BRITISH ARE HERE! Additional Information from Other Sources: 1620s A group of people who wanted to go to the new world to start a new life, asked king for permission. King said yes. They went on the ship aka Mayflower, finally reached the new world, landed on Plymouth Rock. First year, most people died due to the winter and unpreparedness. Next year, everyone prepared for the winter. Finally, the Native American decided to help out and gave them food and helped them hunt and taught them a lot of skills. (Hence the existence of Thanksgiving day). Later - issues: Grew to the 13th colonies, pretty much lived there, started raising taxes and there were meetings. British soldiers that came over to watch. Some soldiers go home drunk and start living in a random familys house. Boston Massacre: it started off as a simple riot. Nothing was violent at all prior to that. Suddenly by accident, a gunshot was heard and everyone started going mad. It turned into a battle and war which was when the proper revolution started. America did not have enough supplies as the British was the one who were supplying them especially clothes, and sheets. Most of the American Soldiers died due to coldness while the British still had their full uniform. People in America knew the land better so it was an advantage as well. revolution/summary.html http://www.shmoop.com/american-revolution/ http://www.mapsofworld.com/usa/american-revolution/ impact-other-nations.html IMPACTS: OUTLINE OF PAGE: OVERVIEW - Basic changes, brief description SOCIALLY - Egalitarianism, changes of beliefs in believing equality of all people. People were more open-minded and also looked down upon on slavery. Financial background does not matter/rich and poor. THE SOUTH did not want to accept the new idea and stood for its opinion and agreeing on ongoing slavery. POLITICALLY - Women, divorce rights, laws, property (part of economic), rights & power EFFECT ON THE NATIVE AMERICANS - What happened after? What were some of the consequences and aftermath? - Not being able to find a home to start a community. FINAL DRAFT TO BE PUT ON WEBSITE:
The American Revolution impacted the whole of America and the rest of the world in various ways. The revolutionary war significantly marked its establishment of a brand new nation, in which was founded along with new political ideas as well as self-governing. Not only did this lead to a successful colonization, but it also resulted in industrialization of the American continent. The revolution also brought social, political, as well as economical changes. By the end of the revolution in 1783, there were noticeable and significant changes in the Colonial American society. SOCIALLY: One of the earliest changes would be the belief in equality amongst everyone, which also known as egalitarianism. Throughout the fighting of the revolutionary war, both wealthy military men and men living in poverty joined forces in respect. Since then, it has led to a more open-minded idea that your financial background, rich or poor, should not matter. This is clear evidence that epitomizes change in the way people thought and their values and beliefs. Although this has slightly improved the lives of the Americans, the Souths did not agree to change their beliefs or stance. This is due to the fact that slavery, to the Souths were too important to even think about banning it or even limiting it at all.

DID YOU KNOW?: The North Americans looked down upon slavery and a while after the American revolution, the North freed thousands and thousands of slaves. By the time the war has formally ended, around 20,000 slaves were granted freedom. POLITICALLY: The American Revolution had a major affect on the Colonists politically, especially women. In prior of the war, women had no rights at all except the role of raising families and taking care of their children. However, after the war has ended women began to gain some rights that led them to a closer step to freedom and power. Women were given the right to be able to declare a divorce between their husband and themselves if they desired to. This is something they would never have dreamed of being able to access to such right. Even-though this was a clear change after the revolutionary war and shows its value, there were of course its limitations as well. This right was only available to women in certain colonies. Furthermore, women who announces a divorce would usually lose most of her own properties to the man. DID YOU KNOW?: During the battle, several women were actually fighting alongside the men. Some women were helping the soldiers to regain their health! HOW DID IT START?: Due to the fact that the war was assisted with the help of women, it resulted in ideas of change. Another political change that has provided an immense effect on the colonies from the War would be that from now on, instead of relying on the King of Britain, they are able to have their own central government, in which the role was appointed to George Washington, the powerful, mighty, leader that is ideal for a newly formed nation. EFFECT ON THE NATIVE AMERICANS: The Native Americans were affected by the War as well. However, like most times it was in a negative way. Due to the war, more people had become settlers looking for a place to start a community. Only these places had already been developed by Native American tribes. Sadly, these communities were destroyed by the settlers. Native Americans were losing their homes and had a hard time finding peace in a new nation in which they were looked upon as evil savages. Unfortunately, the Native Americans were badly affected by the revolutionary war as well. More people became settlers after the war, and looking for a place to start a community for the Native Americans was troublesome. They were soon losing their homes. It was extremely difficult for them to find peace in a new nation as they were seen to be evil savages. Generally speaking, the American Revolution had an immense impact on the society as well as the world socially, politically and economically. Although the colonialists successfully gained their own independence, they were also found in debt and problems that had to be solved. The revolution also strongly affected both African slaves and Native Americans who found themselves isolated from the nation of freedom.

Research 1. Normal This was the normal state, when it was still the King of Britain in Notes which was in power before the revolution had begun. 2. Criticism of Existing Regime There were noticeable traces of criticism of existing regime. One famously being Thomas Paine's book "Common Sense" as well as the first Continental Congress uniting to criticize the King. 3. Widespread Dissatisfaction The widespread dissatisfaction are also the key events that triggered the revolution. This includes the Boston Tea Party and other protests by the colonists. These protests did not only involve the wealthy men, others who criticized the British also joined in. 4. Transfer of Power At this stage, those who supported the movement gained power and changes begin to occur. The Declaration of Independence took place and declaration of the colonies independence immediately set the founding fathers in power. 5. Civil War This is the stage when there is war between the old and the new regime. This is when the Revolutionary war began. Britain and loyalists fight against those who are longing for independence and freedom in the colonies, and were seen as rebels to the British. 6. Reign of Terror In this stage, a formal reign of terror in the American Revolution did not exist. However, colonists attacked and killed loyalists prior to and during the revolution, which is something common in a revolutionary war. 7. Thermidorian Reaction The recovery stage of a revolution, where things start to get back to normal. This is also when George Washington gains power, becomes president and the country returns to peace. Web Link/ Powerpoint from PHI. This resource has clearly listed all the Reference stages of the revolution and helped me complete this stage.
