color scheme - A set of colors that are used in an artwork, and the way they are combined in an artwork; sometimes called a palette. A color scheme is particularly harmonious if its colors are aesthetically compatible with a root color. In devising such a palette, artists might employ theories or principles of color harmony. Examples include achromatic, monochromatic, complementary, analogous, split complementary, and triadic (three) color schemes.
Sequence of Instruction (Time needed + Step by Step Procedures): Describe the objectives of the lesson: *Learn about an artist, look into biographical information, painting techniques, and famous works. *Choose a fragment of one of their famous pieces to base an abstract painting off of, draw a design around that, and paint in a way that the fragment blends in.

Using research of the artist and artwork, paint using a technique that this artist used. Watch videos, read instructions and do your best to paint in that style, although the subject matter of the painting can still be abstract. Do your best to blend in the image and match some colors that are in the famous art work in your painting that is surrounding it.

Demonstrate how I used Monet as an example Show Video http://www.bcsc.k12.in.us/Page/9070 Point out blended fragment, large brush strokes, color mixing that Monet used. Made it an abstract landscape. Color mixing theory Start by researching artists. Choose a famous work to use a fragment of. sketching ideas on how to lay out and blend in the fragment. Glue it onto canvas/paper Use techniques that the artist used in any of his/her paintings. Be able to describe and defend how you were inspired by this artist and how you used techniques from them in your own work.

Assessment: Create a painting inspired by an artist from history and a famous piece of art work as the center of the inspiration. Use techniques that this artist has used in your painting.

Elements & Principles- Focus on the color, mixing to match with the color combination in the art history reference art. Creativity and Originality-Choose an interesting abstract layout to frame the art history fragment and incorporate colors that flow with the image, but still having your hand in all decisionsjust being inspired by the artist- do not copy them! Effort- Creates a well developed sketch before starting and makes use of art history inspirations. Works hard throughout the process and meets deadlines. Craftsmanship- Good sense that the artist tried to get the art history piece to blend in with the painting. Attitude-Work consistently, clean up, go beyond expectations.
