March 31, 2014 To Whom It May Concern: It is with great pleasure and honor that I write a review of Simones commitment and promise to the field of student affairs. I have had the pleasure of working with her for two years as her supervisor. As I reflect on our working relationship, I can say with confidence that it has been a collaborative and supportive partnership, in which I have gained much knowledge and received many encouragements from Simone. Simone is a passionate, reflective, and curious individual who will make many positive contributions to the field. If I had to use one word to describe Simone, it would be passionate. Simone has a contagious and exuberant energy that fills a room. Her passion for learning and advocating for the needs of students is unmatched. She is dedicated to being a life-long learner and teacher; she serves as a helpful a resource to her students and offers all of herself for the betterment of students. As an Assistant Resident Director, I have seen Simone volunteer herself as a resource to her supervisees and students. She does not do this in a passive manner; she actively shares her personal and educational interests and shares the new things she discovers with students. She is a role model for what it means to humbly learn and grow, in and outside of the classroom. One of Simones personal interests that I hope she will continue to practice as she enters the field is the practice of writing and sharing poetry. Poetry is one of the many ways that Simone reflects and processes her own learning and experiences. This practice makes Simone an effective professional. Not only have I seen this practice ground and center her, I have seen Simone inspire and empower young people to utilize creative expression and reflections to give voice to their story and strengthen their identities. It is a unique and powerful gift that Simone is able to offer. Finally, I believe that Simones curious nature will positively contribute to her work in this field. Simone yearns to learn and continue to better her practice. She is not satisfied with the bare minimum or status quo. She pushes the envelope, asks critical questions, and initiates challenging conversations. I am confident that Simone will leave her mark in a powerful and positive way wherever she goes in the future. I am excited to see Simone graduate and enter into the field of student affairs. I hope she never loses her enthusiasm to learn and teach alongside students. It has been such a pleasure to work with Simone and I wish her all of the best. Sincerely,

Michelle Minjoe Kim, M.A. Resident Director, Bellarmine Hall kimmi@seattleu.edu
