SIDEWALK SHED:

A sidewalk shed is a structure built over a sidewalk to protect pedestrians from debris

As a result of work being performed overhead or object falling from a building or construction site

WHEN A SIDEWALK SHED REQUIRED:


Shed is required before beginning the renovation of a building faade Construction of a new building Or demolition of an existing structure. Some cases are shown below:

Sidewalk

Sheds must be erected and utilized in accordance with Chapter 33 (section 3307) in NYC Building Code.
A

sidewalk shed must be erected whenever materials or debris are to be moved by a hoist, crane, derrick or chute over the sidewalk or temporary sidewalk that is not closed to the public, regardless of building height or horizontal distance between building and sidewalk.
In

New York City, a sidewalk shed is required when constructing a building more than 40 feet high.

SIDEWALK SHED


The

distance from the face of the building to the inner edge of the walkway is less than half the height of the building.
Demolishing

a building more than 25 feet high and the distance from the face of the building to the inner edge of the walkway is less than half the height of the new building.


Whenever

there is a dangerous condition irrespective of height.

HOW TO OBTAIN SIDEWALK WORK PERMIT FROM DOB:

You can obtain Sidewalk Work Permit By submitting all needed Forms, plans to DOB through E-Filing (ELECTRONIC FILING) or by submitting them all in person at DOB Borough Office.
