Installing and Configuring IIS, SMTP & POP3 Servers

and Outlook 2007 Mail Client HowTo
By Kefa Rabah, krabah@globalopenversity.org October 26, 2009

1.0 Introduction
In this HowTo, I’ll show via step-by-step, & screenshots how to install and configure IIS, SMTP, POP3
servers and Outlook 2007 on Windows 2003 on VMWare installed on WinXP machine. Because
documenting this process with screenshots is so lengthy, it will be broken into parts, as follows

1. Part 1: Install the required windows components

2. Part 2: Install and setup SMTP & POP3 servers
3. Part 3: Install and configure Outlook 2007 mail client.

Part1: Install required Windows components

Before proceeding, here are a couple of assumptions:

1. You have access to all of the required software:

1. Microsoft Virtual PC with SP1 or VMware which I am using

2. Windows Server 2003
3. Microsoft Office 2007
4. Internet access

2. This will not be a lesson on how to use Virtual PC or VMware; I'll assume that you are already
familiar with the tool and are capable of building a basic virtual machine using Windows Server 2003.
In this HowTo I’m going to use, unless otherwise mentioned, VMware and not VPC. That being
said... let's dive in!
