SCHOOL CONTACT TEACHER/ADMINISTRATOR: Michele Allen / Joan Gauthier Consider each of the six essential elements of Catholic Community of Caring (Parental Involvement, Community Involvement, Integration of Values in Curriculum, Ministry/Service, Student Forums/Conferences, and Emphasis on Building Relationships). You may also consider results from the cultural audits, if you wish to utilize these for helping to establish a focus for the year (Categories in the cultural audits include: Catholicity, School Climate, Cultural competency, Social Justice, supportive Communities, Integration of Catholic Values, Celebrating Community). Essential Elements: During the 2011-2012 school year, St. William school community will continue our Catholic Community of Caring focus to build strong relationships among staff, students and parents. Our district theme of, Love One Another as I Have Loved You, provides a focus to explore the teaching of Jesus as our example. The six values, of the Catholic Community of Caring, Faith, Caring, Respect, Responsibility, Trust and Family will be used to support our focus. This theme will be used to build strong relationships of love, empathy and compassion between staff students and families within our school community. How Will Your School Community Be Informed of the Schools Focus Effective communication is essential. The following strategies will be used to ensure communication: School Newsletter / web page information updated regularly Community newsletter submission CCC committee- teachers and students involved in generating and facilitating ongoing Professional Development CCC component included in each staff meeting agenda Students led prayer reinforce CCC concepts with intentional language and focus School Council supported several of our initiatives

Proposed Activities to Support Focus: January: (Responsibility) St. William Day Celebration/ Liturgy, Birthday Bags for Food Bank, birthday cake and celebration with students, staff and families February: (Caring) Valentines/Lent, Ash Wednesday, Warm Fuzzy Grams funds go to World Vision, staff prayer March: (Trust) Lent, Shrove Tuesday pancake lunch, continued World Vision project April: (Faith) Holy Thursday Celebration, Earth Day (environmental stewardship clean-up) May: (Respect) Mary/Mother Liturgy, Living Rosary, continued stewardship project June: (Family) Year End Liturgy/Celebration, WISAGRA (Wisdom, Age and Grace) awards, sacramental recognition Other Social Justice Projects: Jacket Racket, Unicef, Terry Fox, In from the Cold, St. Vincent de Paul All teachers will develop themes based on the six values of faith, caring, respect, responsibility, trust and family. Strategies for Digital Citizenship: -student Tech. Team -Kids In the Know (component of Religion program) -post safety tips in news letter for parents and students -Power Point presentation at Celebrations CCC Teacher Professional Development ongoing on each PD day. Big Family Groups six sessions throughout the year based on the six values. Every teacher in our school is part of a team responsible for the planning/ implementation of one BFG session.

Service learning opportunities linked to CCC focus - intentional pre and post activities to support student learning through the service / leadership projects (recycling program, patrols, grade 5/6 mentoring ) School wide student led morning prayer support CCC themes Member(s) of our school community attend CCC in-services provided by our District and bring back information to our school. Parents are invited to our school community whenever possible and are acknowledged for their positive contributions to the building of a caring community. Ways To Evaluate On-going Success: Results of CCC survey: Catholicity, School Climate, Cultural competency, Social Justice, supportive communities, Integration of Values, Celebrating Community. Number of service learning opportunities available in the school. Continued parent involvement in school activities. Feedback from Buddy group sessions and teacher PD. Opportunities for involvement of every member of school community Positive relationships within the school community Increased student learning identified through participation and curriculum mastery Results of AERR survey
