15-20 minutes 10 minute presentation 5 minute discussion 5 minute assessment Goals Understand COPPA Know how COPPA affects their students How to use social media properly Keeping their social media private & why Know the best way to communicate with students parents & why The target audience are teachers (about 275 teachers) who are learning about cyber security for education. This specific lesson plan has to do with privacy protection. This lesson will teach teachers how to not only protect their students but how to protect themselves as well. With social media being such a big part of todays society, it is important to teach our teachers how to keep their private life private while still enjoying social media with their friends and coworkers. After watching each video and discussing each question, teachers will understand... how COPPA not only affects everyday life and internet usage, but how it applies to their students. how to keep their social media private and why they need to do this. They will be able to comprehend and understand what is acceptable to post on their social media and what is not. This way they will not only protect themselves, but their job as well. Teachers will be able to use this information in everyday life and in the classroom as well.

IC 20-30-5.5 Chapter 5.5 Internet Safety IC 20-30-5.5-1 Duties of School Corporations Sec. 1. Each school corporation shall include on the school corporations curriculum for grades 3 and above instruction concerning safe usage of the INternet by children. As added by P.L. 119-2008, SEC.12.

Required Materials

iPads for each teacher Prezi http://prezi.com/kvecsd8jbsis/coppa/ YouTube video(s) Polleverywhere.com 1) Begin with Prezi presentation 2) Introduce Privacy Protection poll (using iPads) and discuss the results -Ask for explanations of answers and discuss -If answers are skewed, talk about what the results should have looked like 3) Continue with Prezi presentation and watch COPPA video 4) Take another poll and discuss the results -Explain why these results are differ from the last -Make note of what teachers find most important. Do these connect with what items are most important? 5) Move on to social media and teachers -Take poll -Discuss what is and isn't acceptable in social media -Examples: don't email grades, keep social media private -Talk about what is different between your social media and theirs -- need to keep private life private. 6) Ask if teachers have any questions The assessment for this lesson is a formative style. The educator will not administer a formal assessment but will monitor teacher learning from poll results and active discussion.

1) http://www.coppa.org/coppa.htm Part B We were given the topic of privacy protection by our teacher. From that we had to choose a topic that had to do with privacy protection. We picked out COPPA and social media because we felt like these two topics are very important not only for teachers but for their students as well. COPPA was the main focus because it has to do with the protection of children under the age of 13, which many of our teachers deal with. Off of that, we took social media into play as well since our lives revolve around social media in todays world. Both these topics are very important when it comes down to privacy

protections and they need to not only be taught, but understood as well.
