March Reflective Statement The month started with three weeks of advance medical nutrition therapy.

My preceptors begin to assign more complicated patients for me to review and assess. I became more familiar with the different units as well as the daily routine of reviewing charts, interviewing patients and documenting in the electronic medical record. I devoted time this month to developing my in-patient education skills. I reviewed the educational material available for diabetes, cardiac and renal diets and worked to become more at ease in delivering the information in a clear, concise manner. My preceptors also introduced me to nutrition support; we reviewed the formulary, the process of calculating a tube feed and writing an enteral nutrition recommendation. I spent time with a pharmacist to better understand the biomedical assessment process of a TPN patient. I was able to work with a tech in the clean room and prepare three TPN feeding solutions. I began my entry level practice the last week of March and I was responsible for monitoring and responding to nutrition alerts such as low BMI, and NPO status for more than 3 days in addition to screening new admissions and completing any nutrition consults.
