Classroom Management Plan Catie Jasperse

As a teacher, students are entrusted in my care for the majority of the day. As daunting as it may seem, I have a lot of influence on my students. As such, it is the goal of my teaching career to show my students as often as I am able to how much I care about

them, believe in them, respect them, and wish the best for them. Teaching is more than a profession; teaching is instilling into children the goals, understanding, knowledge, self-discipline, and grit! to help them not only succeed in school but also in life. A teacher not only teaches, but is also a role model for the students. As a teacher and a role model, it is my responsibility to manage my classroom in a way that ensures my students will feel safe, respected, appreciated, loved, and feel like they can grow and learn in a supportive environment. "y classroom is a safe place. #tudents are able to come to me and other students with $uestions, thoughts, opinions, and answers. They are able to in$uire about their learning and about life without the fear of rejection, humiliation, bullying, being ignored, and feeling belittled. "y students will know that I am there for them and they can trust me. As students learn and grow, they are constantly being challenged to go outside their comfort %ones. "y classroom will help them feel comfortable and encouraged to open their minds and hearts to what they are learning and what the other students have to offer to the class as a whole. #tudents are encouraged to accept each other for who they are, what they know, and what they bring into the classroom as an individual person. &ach and every student comes from a different background, a different family heritage, a different family situation, different knowledge, e'periences, interests, and so much more. They will have opportunities to bring all of that out in the classroom to enrich their learning. I want to get to know my students for who they are, inside and out. I also want other students to get to know them also. I want to liken (im )ay with his *+ove and +ogic, management theory and )lip )lippen with his *-apturing .ids! /earts, management theory. 0oth )ay and )lippen teach about building relationships with

students and actually getting to know them personally. #tudents will be e'pected to abide by the school and classroom rules, which we will discuss as a class at the beginning of the year. 1e will talk about the school rules and what they look like in and around our school in relation to our classroom, other classrooms, staff and administration, and parents and others visiting our school. 1e will discuss as a class what our classroom rules should be to benefit everyone in the class and to ensure the best e'periences for learning and growing, similar to a classroom contract, as viewed through -apturing .ids! /earts. "y students will know what is e'pected of them and that they are held to those e'pectations through the whole year, not just at the beginning of the year. "y students will also be familiar with the school discipline policy and the conse$uences of any behavior that is against school rules. If necessary, they will be reminded of their e'pectations and the repercussions if they do not follow the rules. &ach student will have certain responsibilities in the classroom 2 to be fair, jobs and responsibilities will be rotated. I believe that students need structure and a good way to get structure is by delegating jobs within the classroom. #tudents have the right to know what is going on and what to e'pect. They need to know that they have a say in the classroom and their voice will be heard. 3ranted, that is not to say that the students will rule! the classroom. )or e'ample, if I am teaching about a specific topic that interests students but they have detailed $uestions about a slightly different aspect of the topic, I want them to feel free to ask me their $uestions, in$uire about it, and maybe we can incorporate it into our lessons to continue e'panding on their knowledge. "y students will know what it means to be self-sufficient and will be able to take pride in

themselves and in their work. I will only accept their best, I believe they, also, should only accept their best. I do not re$uire everything to be perfectly right the first time, I just ask that they try their hardest and do their best. If they make a mistake, they can learn from it and grow. /ow can a student learn if he4she does not have any mistakes to learn from5 There is always room for growth and my classroom will be a great place to continue learning and growing6 In e'pecting the best from my students, they will be responsible and disciplined in their words and actions towards me, the other students, and everyone else in the school and the surrounding community. 7aul Tough and Angela 8uckworth are known for teaching about grit. 9esearch, according to 8uckworth, has shown that grit is the key to success in education and life. If a student has grit, he4she will be more likely to succeed in his4her dreams and goals than other students because of his4her grit. Through grit, educators focus more on student characteristics instead of academics. 0eyond school, a students! test scores may not really matter, but their character will help them make it in life. The specific characteristics that Tough and 8uckworth focus on, alongside grit, are self-control, gratitude, optimism, curiosity, social intelligence, and %est; however, they say that grit is the most important characteristic to predict success in a person!s life. I believe those characteristics are very important in my classroom and within my students. It is my goal to help my students succeed and believe in themselves like I do. I will not only teach them the fundamentals of their grade level and the e'pectations of being a student, but I will also teach them the key details for success in education and in life. I will teach them how to be self-disciplined, self-sufficient, knowledgeable, successful, and gritty!.
