Periods 1: Giver

Discuss Giver - Fishbowls SWBAT synthesize information from the entire novel The Giver to present material to the class in small discussion groups. The Objective is clearly stated with reference to what the student will know and will be able to do. Journal (6 min) Chapters 22 and 23 quiz (12 min) o Check discussion questions, collect extra questions Describe new organizer (2 min) post on board Evidence of the use of technology o Similar ideas ideas/answers that you already thought of o New ideas ideas/answers that are new something you had not considered o Who spoke the best? who you thought expressed themselves the best and most successfully communicated ideas o Last Word if you could jump in to the discussion and have the last word, what would you say? (over all thoughts on the discussion or specific responses) Student Teacher showed evidence of Modeling and Checking for Understanding Move desks (5 min) o 2 tables in the middle with chairs on outside o Other tables and chairs put somewhat on outside Fishbowl 1 (12 min) o I will project the questions so all students can see them and post the 4 expectations for fishbowls o I will choose one student to facilitate the discussion o After all questions have been addressed, one student on the outside will pull a question from the bucket and the bowl will answer. Repeat until timer is done. Fishbowl 2 (12 min) o Repeat directions for fishbowl 1 Make sure that your instruction is coherent, flexible and reflects diversity. Move desks back (5 min) Wrap-up (2 min) Your closure need to facilitate student reflection and reinforces major points in the lesson. o Next period scope of the week

Overall I feel that this is a good lesson plan. It has all the areas of a good lesson plan covered. The inclusion of the time for each activity will help you keep the pace of your lesson better. This is a very good idea. I feel you need to clearly state how you will handle the wrap up.
