As-Salatul-Mashishiyyah of the Qutb Sidi Moulay Abdas-salam ibn Mashish (the student of Sidi Abu Madyan Shu`ayb ibn al-Husayn al-Ghawth). Sidi ibn Mashish was the master of the reat !mam of tasawwuf Sidi Abul Hasan as-Shadhili ("A) and re arded as the Qutb of his time. AsSalatul-Mashish is a beautiful litany summari#in the sufi understandin of the reatness of the rank of the $lessed %ro&het (u&on him be %eace and $lessin s). 'his is only te(t which has come down from !bn Mashish) a meta&hysical &ara&hrase of a widely known &rayer) in which the belie*er calls on God to bless the %ro&het as if to thank him for ha*in recei*ed !slam throu h him. Shaykh Muhammad `Abdu 's-Salam ibn Mashish whose full name was ibn Mansur ibn Ibrahim al-Hasani al-Idrisi, ash-sharif of the $ani `Arus of the +abal `Alam) to the south-east of 'etuan in the Ma hrib.

Allahumma salli ala man minhu-n-shaqqati-l-asrar , Allah shower -our blessin s u&on him from whom burst o&en the secrets)

wa-n-falaqati-l-anwar from whom stream forth the li hts)

wa fihi-rtaqati-l-haqaiq and in whom rise u& the realities)

wa tanazalat ulum Adama fa-ajaza-l-khalaiq and u&on whom descended the sciences of Adam) by which all creatures are made &owerless)

wa lahu tadaalati-l-fuhum and blessin s u&on him before whom all understandin is diminished.

fa-lam yudrik-hu minna sabiqun wa la lahiqa .one of us totally com&rehend him) whether in the &ast or the future

fa-riyadu-l-malakuti bi-zahri jamalihi muniqa 'he ardens of the s&iritual kin dom blossom ornately with the res&lendence of his beauty)

wa hiyadu-l-jabaruti bi-faydi anwarihi mutadafiqah and the reser*oirs of the /orld of 0ominion o*erflow with the out&ourin of his li ht.

wa la shaya illa wa huwa bihi manuta 'here is nothin that is not connected to him)

idh lawla-l-wasitatu la-dhhaba kama qila mawsut because if there were no intercessor) e*erythin to be interceded for would *anish) as it is said.

salatan taliqu bika minka ilayhi kama huwa ahluhu So bless him with a &rayer that is worthy of -ou) from -ou) as befits his stature.

Allahumma innahu sirruka-l-jamiu-d-dallu bika alayk , Allah indeed he is -our all-encom&assin secret that leads throu h -ou to -ou

wa hijabuka-l-aazamu-l-qaimu laka bayna yadayk and he is -our Su&reme 1eil raised before -ou) between -our Hands.

Allahumma alhiqni bi-nasabihi wa haqqiqni bi-hasabihi 2

wa aqadhif bi ala-l-batil fa-adma huhu and strike throu h me at the false so that ! may destroy it.

wa zujja bi fi bihari-l-Ahadiyya %lun e me into the seas of ,neness)

wa-nshulni min ahwali-tawhid &ull me out of the morass of meta&horical 3nity)

wa- hriqni fi ayni bahri-l-!ahda and drown me in the 4ssence of the ,cean of 3nicity

wa-jali Allahumma-l-hijaba-l-azama hayata ruhi , Allah make the Su&reme 1eil the life of my s&irit
