The Sounds of Science Project Overview: Friedrich Nietzsche believed that, Without music, life would be a mistake.

Bob Marley often said, One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain. Victor Hugos opinion was that, Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent. Alexander Demos has been known to say, Some people use music to tell a story, others use it to deal with emotions, but in the end... I cant come up with a good ending because its a very broad topic, ha. Even Albert Einstein admitted, If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music. What do a Philosopher, a Musician, a Writer an HTHNC Junior and the most popular Physicist of all time have in common? Music. Music is an essential component of the Human condition. It can be calming, it can be energizing, it can be motivational. Music can boost the immune system, improve language skills and recall memories. In the immortal words of Plato: Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything. But, why? Essential Questions: Why is music so powerful? Learning Goals Your goal in The Sounds of Science project is to use music as an educational tool for chemistry topics we have been investigating and explore the science behind humanitys attraction to music. You will select a topic we are investigating this Quarter: Trends in the Periodic Table Electron Configuration The Atomic Model Using any of the concepts pertaining to that topic, you will compose a song designed to educate the listener.

Additionally, you will conduct research on any aspect of the science of why music impacts us all differently, that you find most interesting. You will write up your findings in a Scientific Report. Final Product Checklist Recorded Song Requirements: Your song must educate the listener on your topic Your song should be over a minute and a half long Album Cover Requirements: Your cover art must visualize your topic Scientific Report on the Science of Music as either an educational tool, a medical or therapeutic device, or mood and quality of life enhancer.
