Suttee-Hinduism The word Sati was very important for the Hindus. It was a woman who was honorable enough to jump into a burning fire on top of her husbands corpse and enter into heaven with him. Very few women voluntarily jumped, the rest of them were forced to which basically was murder. Since 1947 at least forty widows have been burned and Suttee was eventually banned. Most of the women that performed this act are largely ignored and practically shunned.
