Aliyetti Biology 9-10 20-30 minute nature walk | 30-40 minute classtime to work | 30-50 minutes to present Video devices or Cameras | Laptops w/ Windows Movie Maker (or similar program) BIO.8 The student will investigate and understand dynamic equilibria within populations, communities, and ecosystems. d) the effects of natural events and human activities on ecosystems; The student will be able to compile a list of ways humans affect nature and how those ways compare to natural occurrences. Beginning the first lesson, the students will view the exemplar video created by me. The students take a nature walk around the school or on a field trip and use various forms of technology to make observations: taking pictures, recording video, and/or audio recordings. Their main focus will be to see ways humans have impacted nature in their individual surroundings by asking themselves the question: how has human interaction impacted how I view nature (positively and/or negatively). The students will then compare their local area to information from the internet and create a short podcast video (3-5 minutes) with 2-3 group members using the data collected. Students will be given time in class to put together their videos and time in the next class to present their video to their peers. Outside resources will be allowed for only images and information (not video/audio) if proper citations are made but it is encouraged that students use their own images for the presentation. If time allows, students will present their videos to the class on the Smartboard. If there is not enough time, videos will be posted on the class website for all classmates to access and comment. Purpose of the lesson Activity

walk the presentation of their videos. The students will receive full marks on the presentation if at least 2 natural disasters and 2 human-related impacts were discussed briefly. The lesson plan described above both satisfies NETS and TSIP requirements. The lesson plan facilitates student learning and creativity by allowing them to create a video or podcast based on how humans and nature have affected their personal surroundings. The assignment takes real-life experience from the nature walk and has the student document their observations using pictures, video, and audio and incorporate them into one ultimate technological product. Using a video or podcast will allow the student to be a modeled digital citizen and explain to the public how their environment has been affected. After the video is created and presented to the class and posted on the class website, the students will have participated in making the community a better place by sharing the knowledge of human/nature interactions.
