Objectives Assessment of Student Learning Learning Experience Objective/s: 1. The students will be able to use imagination and creativity to manipulate objects so they go up and down the ramp. 2. The students, with modeling and support, will be able to illustrate the position and motion of objects rolling and sliding up and down the ramp. Modifications for Students with Special Needs: Prebuilt ramp, assist with painting for physical impairments Provide vocabulary (ramp, colors, roll, slide, names of objects) of different languages for ELL's Provide visual demonstrations of the process for hearing impaired Identify Evidence: Each student will create a visual art piece that will show their ability to use imagination and creativity to manipulate objects and materials and illustrate the position and motion of objects. Additionally, a picture will be taken of each student using the ramp they built to roll or slide objects up/down the ramp. Aggregate/Compile Evidence: The art piece that each student creates will be hung on the wall of the classroom, so that the students can see the variations between them, such as the colors used and different track patterns created. The art pieces could also be organized on wall based on characteristics such as color, types of tracks, etc. After the art pieces have hung on the wall for a few days, they will be moved to the student's portfolios, along with the photograph taken of them during the experience. Interpret the Evidence: This lesson will be a good closing lesson with my science topic of ramps. The lesson will allow them to use the prior knowledge they learned from the other ramp related experiences and then bring in the aspect of art. From this lesson I will gain the students Materials: Play cars, paper towel rolls, balls, blocks Various paint colors Paint brushes Ramp - cardboard box, blocks Paper Tray or box Sink, water, soap for washing objects Grouping of Students: This activity will be available as a center with no more than 2 students at a time. Lesson Introduction: This lesson will take place after all the science experiences have been taught. The students will have already worked with many aspects of ramps and will use what they learned from the previous lessons to assist them while creating their visual art piece. I will introduce the lesson by reviewing the vocabulary of rolling versus sliding and asking the students to tell me what they have learned about ramps and how objects move using ramps.

After the lesson, I will use the information that I gather to base my next science or art related lesson. Since this lesson will provide me a view of how well the students retained the information from my previous experiences, I will be able to see where the students lacked in their knowledge and be able to relook at the experiences and see how I could better teach them and apply this knowledge to later lessons, so the students benefit more. The information from this lesson will also provide insight on how comfortable the students are using paint materials and expressing their creativity. If the students don't try and think outside the box with the materials provided, I will know that for my next art lesson that I need to improve on providing either more materials, more instruction, or create more opportunities for the students to enhance their creativity skills.

Steps: 1. Have the students build a ramp using the blocks and cardboard (they can make it as steep as they wish) 2. Place the paper on the ramp 3. Allow the students to pick the objects they wish to use (can use all, if they want) 4. Have the students pick the paint colors they wish to use 5. Have the students paint the objects 6. Explain that the students can manipulate the materials any way they want to have them roll/slide down/up the ramp to create visual art 7. When the students are finished, hang their paper to dry and have the students wash the objects and the their hands Questions for Students during Lesson: What happens to the tracks when you put a lot versus a little amount of paint on the objects? Do different objects make different marks on the paper? How/can you make the track patterns using the same object look different? What do the tracks tell us about how objects move down ramps? Do the tracks look different when you push the object up the ramp vs. when you let the object roll down the ramp? Why did you choose to paint the object that color/ why are these colors being used?
