1.In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
We have used the Enigma theory in our thriller sequence. We have shown this because of the mystery of who are the identities behind the masks and why are they haunting the girl. Is there a connection between them? If so what is it? We included Todorovs suggestion about every film having either Equilibrium, Disequilibrium or New equilibrium. In our thriller we used an Equilibrium, the original idea was to start with a disequilibrium but we changed the idea because we couldnt film the shots that would fit in with the theory. So we decided to stick with an Equilibrium because that way our sequence made more sense as it isn't very detailed and using a Disequilibrium may have confused our audience.
In the beginning part we have a teenage girl. She is wearing ordinary clothes, has long brown hair and doesnt wear any make-up. This could link to teenagers as a group because they can relate to the main character in our sequence. We also used the masks as a identity thief. This could link to the conventions of a mystery thriller, due to the hidden faces And the fact they are haunting this girl.
3. What kind of media intuition might distribute your media product and why?
We used Hammer as a media intuition, this is because:
It is British It is used quite often to distribute a thriller movie Its effective Hammer is one of the most well-known film brands in the UK Since its birth in 1934, Hammer has made over 150 feature films The company has a varied history, with noir, actionadventure movies, psychological thrillers and historical epics also to its name.
No specific group e.g. Goths, chavs, and no specific ethnic groups either. We have aimed it to be focused on teenagers because we have used the average looking 17 year old girl. The reason as to why we chose to have our main audience focused on teenagers is because we are the same age too. Our group is ranged from 16-18 and therefor we could relate to what we think would look good in a thriller sequence and we could also add what we thought would be eye catching and creative.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product?
I learnt a lot about the different functions on the cameras and what they do to make shooting more effective. When editing the film I also learnt that each little detail makes a massive impact on the effectiveness of the film. I learnt that nudges can easily put a downgrade on the sequence, I learnt that adding in effects between each shot can make it appear so much more professional
7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
I learnt how to work and cooperate in a group with people I may not have chosen to work with myself. I also learnt that constructing a film can be a lot of work and needs a lot of prep and organisation. For example:
If you forget to do a task because something popped up then automatically you could have set your group a week behind schedule and this could cause some problems. I learnt that a lot of preparation is needed to be successful and you need to consider other peoples ideas and what the audience may want to see, it cant just be an individual task altogether
