JECS Engineering Property Defense System C.J.

Turner, Samantha Rennu, Eric Stoll, and Jonathon Ingham

Target Consumer
Our primary markets for this product are going to be

for the upper class, businesses, and perhaps military purpose in the United States.

Customer Needs
The customer need would vary slightly by the different

consumers. Primarily they would all want protection against any invader, yet for the home owner, they would want more protection from any assault or violent crime. Businesses would need protection from potential thieves, and the military would use it against any militaristic action. A rescue bot could also be feasible.

Performance
Our product must be able to protect a property. It

would do this through the use of a security system with sentry turrets and a mobile rover. The turret would be equipped with numerous weapon system as requested, allowing multiple actions to be taken, through either lethal, or non-lethal force, and even no action at all if needed. Once a threat is detected, a message will be sent to the nearest owner of the product, and it will be up to them what they want to do about the threat. The rover would communicate with RFID chips to move to locations that are out of reach for the sentries.

Target Cost
The cost of this device would encompass the price of

the gun, monorail system, installation, cameras, software, and a potential tablet. A monthly fee will be required to maintain our system and your safety. The cost of each sentry will be from $220 to $340, as well as a one time cost of $12,000 to $14,000 for the motion tracking software and to make the programming. The server will cost $2000, and an additional $1000 per sub server as needed. We would charge $3200 base, with an additional cost of $1200 per sub server, and $400 per sentry.

Size and Weight

The size of the turret itself will depend on the

ordinance of turret. The smallest size would be around two square feet. The only weight restrictions would be the support systems of the compound, and the ceiling must be able to support the weight of the railing. The rover would be in a square feet with 18 inch long sides, and 12 inches tall.

Aesthetics
The sentry will be housed in a plastic shell, with a

camera as the centerpiece and side additions for two Tasers. It would be implemented into the ceiling, as to cause less of a disturbance. The rover would be made out of aluminum, and would be more menacing.

Safety and Legal Issues

The safety issues that may arise would be the possible

endangerment of innocent persons, like our fellow class member, Lizzy. As with any software, it could bug, or even be hacked, and fire on targets that it was told not to. Manual control should be able to disable this for a time, but it is still a danger. Legal issues could be the gun licenses needed in each state. Receiving permission from the government to install turrets in its citizens households could be problematic, but could be solved by potential buyers within the military itself.

Ergonomics
The power which the device would run off of would be

from the alternating current available within the compound. The movement would be a bit problematic for the rover, but most of the time there would be an instanct response with the sentry.

Operating Environment
The environment in which it would be utilized would

be in households, and mostly large compounds. Standard wear and tear can be expected, including dust that can collect on the systems. The only damage it should take would be from invaders that could stab or shoot at the device.

Global Environment
There wouldnt be a danger of swallowing harsh chemicals,

nor would it have hazardous materials to the environment. A danger from the device wouldnt be from the materials, but rather from the actions the turret takes itself, which could inflict serious injuries from high-velocity projectiles or electric currents. The product would never be thrown away in its lifetime, unless it is severely damaged. The aluminum, weapon, and server components could be recycled if they arent damaged. Due to its materials, it would be perfectly safe to dispose of it through the garbage after its recyclable parts are reused.

Service Life
The service life expected out of the device would be

until the customer has no need of it. The item would have a five year warranty for any major repairs or replacements. There will be mandatory maintenance every four months a year, with additional fees if it is needed more than that.

Product Life
Software updates can be anticipated yearly, and could

be wirelessly updated There should be updates to the hardware yearly to advance the product, yet they are not required for businesses to buy the enhanced versions. They act as upgrades to phones, like upgrading to an Iphone 5s isnt needed, but improves the performance. Example-Innovations may be added for extra costs depending on size.

Durability and Maintenance

The local server must have easy access for regular

maintenance, and updates. The sentry must be easy to access Maintenance-every four months for sentry, two months for software. Additional problems that are detected could be solved immediately. Tools-Access codes, knowledge of the workings of the product are needed. Every system has individual access code. Replacement parts required if severely damaged or wear and tear over time They will be acquired from a warehouse and installed by a certified JECS technician

Design Constraints
The final turret must be within a two square foot area,

according to the operational area, otherwise it may be larger. The time in which the final product must be created is two to three weeks. Bluetooth and wireless capability.
