Idaho Core Teacher Standards
What is it?
These standards reflect a move to "performance-based standards, meaning a
candidate is recommended for initial certification based on the demonstration
of what they know and are able to do.
All teacher candidates are expected to meet the Idaho Core Teacher Standards
and the standards specific to their discipline area(s) at the acceptable level
or above.
Danielson Framework for Teaching
What is it?
The Charlotte Danielson framework elements is a research-based set of
components of instruction, aligned to the INTASC standards, and grounded in a
constructivist view of learning and teaching.
It focuses on four main domains teaching responsibility
1. Planning and Preparation
2. Classroom Environment
3. Instruction
4. Professional Responsibilities


Idaho Core Teacher Standard
The Idaho Core Teacher Standards consists of ten standards that teachers should
meet the expected requirements for initial certification meaning they must know
what they are doing and if they doing it right. Starting with:
Standard 1: Knowledge of Subject Matter - The teacher understands the
central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structure of the discipline taught, and
creates learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter
meaningful for students.
This standards focuses on how teachers present themselves to their students. It
comes out to how the teacher understands discipline in preparing students for their
future and success. The teacher must understand the Idaho Student Achievement
Standards in how he/her teaches accurately and relevantly.

Idaho Core Teacher Standard
Standard 2: Knowledge of Human Development and Learning - The teacher
understands how students learn and develop, and provides opportunities that
support their intellectual, social and personal development.
This standard focuses on the different and effective ways to teach information to
students. The teacher creates an environment that works well with students because
they understands how students develop and find ways to improve their performance.
Standard 3: Adapting Instruction for Individual Needs - The teacher understands
how students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional
opportunities that are adapted to students with diverse needs.
This standard focuses on how students all have a different way of learning and what
teachers do to meet their abilities. Teachers understand that there are students who
have a harder time learning because they are exceptional students. This allows teachers
to make modification to their curriculum or teaching styles to approach these
exceptional students.

Idaho Core Teacher Standard
Standard 4: Multiple Instructional Strategies - The teacher understands and uses a
variety of instructional strategies to encourage students' development of critical
thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.
This standard focuses on how teachers can approach students and provide them with a
variety of instructional strategies. Teachers understand that different methods of teaching
such as cooperative learning, discovery learning, and other techniques allows students to
enhance their learning.
Standard 5: Classroom Motivation and Management Skills - The teacher understands
individual and group motivation and behavior and creates a learning environment that
encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-
motivation.
This standard is all about how a teacher can become motivating in a classroom. The teacher
must understand that classroom management is important and his/her leadership is a big
influence on the students. This allows teachers to bring the classroom as a whole to
participate and feel comfortable as a class.

Idaho Core Teacher Standard
Standard 6: Communication Skills - The teacher uses knowledge of effective verbal,
nonverbal, and media communication techniques to foster active inquiry,
collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.
This standard focuses on the different ways in communication with students. This
requires the use of technology as well as whether students are visual or audio learners.
The teacher uses strategies to encourage student communication ability.
Standard 7: Instructional Planning Skills - The teacher plans instruction based
upon knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals.
This standard focuses on how accurate the teacher is with instruction materials towards
his/her students. Teachers understand that keeping the students engaged in the
classroom is important to maximize their learning.

Idaho Core Teacher Standard
Standard 8: Assessment of Student Learning - The teacher understands, uses and
interprets formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and advance
student performance and to determine program effectiveness.
This standard focuses on the various of ways to assess how students are evaluated on
their progress. Teachers understand that this will promote student learning by
modifying instruction.
Standard 9: Professional Commitment and Responsibility - The teacher is a
reflective practitioner who demonstrates a commitment to professional standards
and is continuously engaged in purposeful mentoring of the art and science of
teaching.
This focuses on the reflection on the practice of teaching by knowing The Code of Ethics
for Idaho Professional Educators. This is helps teachers to continue the commitment of
addressing students needs for a positive future.
Idaho Core Teacher Standard
Standard10: Partnerships - The teacher interacts in a professional, effective
manner with colleagues, parents, and other members of the community to support
students' learning and well being.
This standard is all about communication. Teachers understand that the relationship
between school, families, and community is important to benefit students success for
the future. This provides students with the support to a positive path not only through
school but with the help from people outside school.

This domain focuses on an overall of how the teacher approaches students and the
effectiveness of their learning. Teachers demonstrate different learning resources for
students to show progress in learning which they are later evaluated.

This domain focuses on how the teacher creates a positive learning environment for
students. The teacher uses structure and classroom management in order for students to
reach a positive outcome.

This domain focuses on communicating with students so that everyone has a say in the
classroom. The teacher must use different ways to motivate and approach students so
that they are engage at all time in the classroom.

This domain focuses on the professional responsibilities of a teacher. This includes
keeping track of records and being interactive with the professional community in order
to grow as a teacher and enhance their ability to teach.
