Forces change the motion o" obects in #redictable ways$ Galileo imagined a world without "riction
and conducted a though e!#eriment in his ideal world$ %e concluded that it doesn&t take a "orce to
kee# an obect moving' but it takes a "orce to sto# an obect that is already in motion$ Newton
restated Galileo in his "irst law called inertia( obects at rest remain at rest' and obects in motion
remain in motion with the same velocity' unless acted u#on by an unbalanced "orce$ %e also had two
other laws$ Newton&s second law which is ")ma' and Newton&s third law which states that when one
obect e!erts a "orce on another obect' the second obect e!erts an e*ual and o##osite "orce on the
