Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to Eighth Grade! I am delighted to have your child in my class this year. I am
looking forward to a very successful year and know you are too. I want to take this opportunity
to introduce myself and express my excitement about working with your child this year. I am a
graduate from Bloomsburg University with a Bachelors Degree in Midlevel Mathematics
Education. This is my 4
th
year of teaching eighth grade Math at Perkiomen Valley Middle
School. I hope to increase your childs interest in math and prepare them for high school courses.
I am here to help students and I am open to any helpful suggestions.

In order for students to be successful in my class, there are a few materials they will need:
A notebook
Ruler
PENCILS! (Please no pens)
Colored Pencils
Protractor
Calculator

Over the course of the year, we will be learning several different concepts related to algebra
and pre-algebra. Some big units that we will be covering are graphing equations and inequalities,
ratios and averages, and rational and irrational numbers. We will be working from our text-book,
but also learning through hands on activities, projects, and challenging math puzzles.

Homework will be given 3 to 4 times a week. The students will have notes from class to use
at home to help them work through the problems. I believe practice makes perfect and will do the
best I can to make sure students have an understanding before returning home.

Im greatly looking forward to working with you and your child on their journey to gain a
better understanding of Math. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me at
any time. You can reach me by phone (610) 489 1234 ex. 2554 or e-mail
dstrange@pvmde.org.

My goal is to make your child feel successful and enjoy learning. I know we will make it happen
by working together!

Sincerely,
Danielle Strange

Commented [DNS1]: INTASC Standard 10: School and
Community Involvement. This is a letter that I created to send
home on the first day of school. It is important to create a good
relationship with your students parents. This is an example of how
I am creating a relationship with them. I provide multiple ways that
the parents can get a hold of me. I also invite them to contact me
whenever they wish regarding whatever they want to talk to me
about. This allows for an open communication between myself and
the parents.
