General Information.

Congo-Mirador is a small village built above the

mouth of the river of Catatumbo, the name given to this
houses are Palafitos, and the local transportation are
canoes. It represents a very magical place, because its
possible to see the birth of one of the wonders on earth, the
lightning of Catatumbo.
People

The population of the village is a mixture of all
people in Venezuela, there is a variety of races and cultures,
like natives, and Spanish people. The principal
characteristic is the hospitality and friendly personalities.
Outstanding physical features.

Congo-Mirador is situated at the southeast of the
Lake of Maracaibo, right in the mouth of the river of
Catatumbo, and it counts with a very tropical and fresh
weather. The village can be reached by traveling through
Santa Barbara and taking canoes to the spot. Palafitos
have a very windy climate due the location of its
construction right above the river.

Agricultural produce and industrial products.

This magnificent spot is the birth place of fisherman,
therefore, the fishing is the biggest activity in the commerce.
As well, there are many picturesque small stores around the
village that sells homemade products (like flour, grains) and
souvenirs.


Tourist attractions.

The tourist investment part from the government
had been growing lately and they are creating posadas to
help the increment of tourists here. Moreover, there are
tours to reach the village and it explains the views and
history of the places that you will see in your journey. Is
important to emphasize that the principal attraction is the
sighting of the lighting of Catatumbo, usually the tourists
stay and contemplate the view from the community hall of
Congo-Mirador, and they look at the flashing in the clouds
and amazing natural phenomenon which is now declared
Natural Heritage by UNESCO and has a Record Guinness
