The artifact that I chose for Standard 3: Planning for Differentiated Instruction was an

integrated assignment I composed for a Special Education class. This particular artifact
required me to administer various developmental and environmental assessments for a
focal child and her home and school environment. Through this experience, I was able to
not only familiarize myself with various assessments, but also gain insight of my focal
child and better understand her current performance level in cognitive and adaptive areas
and use that information to design personalized goals and educational plans.

My selected artifact successfully speaks to Knowledge Indicator F because, through the
development of this focal childs personal plan, I was required to work with other
cooperating professionals and her parents to obtain relevant information pertaining to the
childs current goals listed in her IEP, as well as any progress she has made recently
along with information from the parents pertaining to her home routine and goals her
parents have for their child. Furthermore, I was able to work with my cooperating
teacher to develop future goals for this particular student based on the results of her
cognitive and adaptive area assessment. This integrated assignment also embodies
Performance Indicator C, because in this artifact I have planned for embedded learning
opportunities within the current school day as well as plans for progress within areas of
need.

This integrated assignment shows my development as a novice teacher because through
this experience I was able to demonstrate my ability to not only administer various
professional assessments, but also my ability to gather and interpret data in order to
construct personalized goals and plans for instruction for the child. Furthermore, I was
able to work collaboratively with other professionals as well as the focal childs family in
order to meet the needs and best interests of the child, which is extremely important to be
able to do as an effective teacher.
