Lesson Plan Overview
Objective: Students will understand that the choices they make can have an impact on their
lives as well as the lives of others. They will also become inspired to make
decisions and take risks that can influence their Home, School, Community,
Island, Nation, or World.

Activities: Students will be creating their own personalized book about things they can do to
help and how helping others relate directly to them. At the end of the book there
will be the lyrics to the song from High School Musical, Were all in this
together, and a class photo with all students names beneath it. As a closing for
this unit students will perform at their second grade Christmas party for their
families to the song, Were all in this together.

Students will also be working in groups of 4 with designated roles (Artist, Writer,
and 2 Presenters). They will design a poster of what they could do to help in their
school or community. Then they will present their ideas to the class.

This lesson would be the closing lesson of the unit and would include a well-
chaperoned fieldtrip to a homeless family shelter. We will help to serve them lunch
and bring Christmas gifts donated from our school community for the children.
(The collection of these gifts are a part of another lesson plan for this unit)
