Lesson Plan

Grade: Second
Subject: Spelling and Vocabulary
Teachers: Caitlin Bittinger and Kayla Holecheck
Objective: To give students and opportunity to use a variety of activities to practice spelling
words using multisensory techniues! Students will choose which stations to participate in
based on several stations set up around the classroom! To give students the opportunity to
learn the definition of each word!
Purpose: By the end of the lesson students will be able to properly spell and fully understand
the meaning of the list of provided words!
Materials:
"ist of vocabulary# spelling words
"ist of vocabulary# spelling words$ kid friendly definitions
%encils
Crayons
&arkers
%re$printed images 'of the words(
%aper
%romethean
o )ctiv*nspire$ premade alphabet template
i%ads
Procedure:
Set up three stations around the room! +ach station will offer a different way to learn the
definition or to practice spelling each word! Stations will last ,- minutes each!
Station 1: )ctiv*nspire$ )lphabet template! Students will take turns in their group
dragging the letters to spell the words after their peer reads the word aloud!
Extension: The students who finish early will be allowed to review previous vocabulary# spelling
words and write them using the same )ctiv*nspire software!
Differentiation:
Claire is visually impaired. and has a brail alphabet and she will use that to help her spell
the words aloud to her classmates as they drag the letters on the %romethean!
/uan is not fluent in +nglish. and needs to hear the words spoken in Spanish as well to
enhance comprehension! The teacher will have an i%ad with a Voki set up that speaks
each word in Spanish first. as well as +nglish! He will have that available to use
whenever he needs to. but he will also have a separate worksheet which has the word
written in Spanish and in +nglish!
Station : Students will look at the pictures given. as well the list of vocabulary# spelling
definitions and match them to the vocabulary words! 0nce students understand the
definitions they will draw their own pictures# symbols for the words!
Extension: The students who finish early will be allowed to act out the vocabulary words!
Differentiation:
Claire is visually impaired. so her peers will describe the image to her and then she will
say aloud the vocabulary# spelling word which matches!

enhance comprehension! The teacher will have an i%ad with a Voki set up that speaks
each word in Spanish first. as well as +nglish! He will have that available to use
whenever he needs to. but he will also have a separate worksheet which has the word

Station !: i%ads$ Students will use an i%ad with the painting software to practice spelling
the list of vocabulary words!
Extension: The students who finish early will be able to draw pictures or symbols of the words!
