While in search of meaningful work and looking through programs affiliated with Northwestern
Universitys !ngage "hicago program, # was led to the website for $ealth %eads. The work
carried out by and mission of $ealth %eads was inspiring and aligns with my desire to effect a
positive cultural change. # would like to apply for the "ollege &dvocate 'ellowship for (ummer

# have seen statistics demonstrating the negative impact of poverty on health outcomes,
specifically on those of the children born into these areas. (imilarly, the -obert Wood .ohnson
states that /01 our healthcare costs go to treating diseases. #n fact, the money is spent on treating
diseases that are preventable2 3y working side by side with patients, # believe prevention can
earn its rightful spot in our healthcare system. &ssisting and empowering patients to get basic
needs met 4for such things as attaining food, ac5uiring safe housing, and paying bills6 will
directly impact their health. # am a psychology ma7or and pre8med student at the University of
Wisconsin8Madison, and # would like to serve as an &dvocate for $ealth %eads for this summer
)*+,. # will not only learn how to better direct our nations healthcare, but # will also be effecting
change immediately in individual lives, including my own.

# am invested and passionate about the different kind of healthcare that $ealth %eads seeks to
make possible, addressing fundamental resources as standard care. My past e9periences such as
working in the milieu at Timberline :nolls ;sychiatric -esidential Treatment "enter have helped
shape my current skills and attributes. # have great technical, customer service, and social skills. #
am even8keeled and able to think well in crisis. # have great personal and professional boundaries
yet am compassionate, caring, and helpful. 'urther, # have been blessed with a wide8based,
liberal arts education that embraces diversity, creativity, and service to others.

# want to be part of the solution to our current broken healthcare system that is now really illness
focused. # align with $ealth %eads holistic mission to offer solutions for health in addition to
managing disease processes. Treating the whole person, not 7ust disease states, leads to better
health. # am eager to help patients get their prescriptions for basic needs filled.

# hope that you can feel my passion for your mission. <ou will gain a very dedicated, energetic
team player by hiring me as an &dvocate this summer. # will work hard to assist patients in
