In Froyen and Iversons book, it says under Conduct Management, Students come from diverse cultural backgrounds and consequently, have varied expectations for their own behavior. (56) This line has made me realize how much a teacher has to remember and act upon how each child came from a different background and also how the student acts in class. This has also been interesting to me because there is a certain student who now after talking to the teacher and how to handle it, that has a history of an attitude problem and are working on it. This student has been very sassy to me and has given me a rough time to see what she could get away with. At one point she was in a group where they had to figure out things that are green and start with the different letter of the alphabet. I was asked to check all of their papers to see how they were doing, and this one student, she would not let me and gave me sass about it. I said ok and then checked the others. Though the next day when I was working with her and other students on the vowels and reviewing, I was helping her the most and focused on her since she was struggling with the assignment. I was a little shocked that she was kind and let me help her so that she could do and finish the assignment right. I think that if I say Im helping her and we do it one on one, she is willing to do things and realize that I am helping and am a teacher as well.
Through this experience, I learned that teachers deal with many types of students and there is a right way to handle things and a wrong way. Watching the teacher that I am helping out, I have learned so much and grown as a person and learned what to say if I am struggling again with students. I thought that this would be easy, but now I learned that it is not as easy as I thought. I think that it is interesting with the first graders because some of them are at higher levels and the way that the class is run in the morning with small groups and certain activities. I am learning through this process and am very glad that I am in the classroom that I am in and I can learn many situations and how to find solutions for when I am hopefully a teacher in the future.
