Read Happy Easter, Little Critter By Mercer Mayer and do a finger play activity
Type of Activity: Fingerplay and a story. Age group: 3-5 Number in group:3 Opening Question/Invitation/Prop/Finger Play:
I will ask the children if the easter bunny comes to there house. I will also ask What does he do when he comes to your house? I will then read the story Happy Easter, Little Critter. Then we will play Five little bunny finger puppets. I will have 5 bunny cut outs one for each finger. I will then put all then on my fingers and start to tell the story, while telling it I will take a bunny away during each verse.
Five little bunnies hopping on the floor, One hopped away, And then there were four. Four little bunnies, sweet as can be, One hopped away, And then there were three, Three little bunnies, I once knew, One hopped away, And then there were two, Two little bunnies, oh what fun! One hopped away, And then there was one. One little bunny, playing in the sun, One hopped away, And now there are none!
Concepts & Skills: The children will be able to recall how many bunnies there were in the finger play story. The children will be able to tell how the bunnies went away.
Questions to ask: Can you remember how many bunnies there were? Can you count them? Where did the bunnies go? How did they go there?
LEARNING ACTIVITY PLAN Procedure: First we will read the story Happy Easter Little Critter. Then we will : Have the children color the bunny pictures before cutting them out. Then cut them out and place one on each finger Have them gather around you Ask some questions about the easter bunny Tell the story. Ask some more questions, recalling what you told them.
Materials Needed: Five little bunny cut outs the sit on each of your five fingers. Sissors Crayons The Book Happy Easter,Little Critter. Have the children color them before you tell the story. Performance Standards: B.EL.1 Demonstrates an understanding of numbers and counting.
Potential Guidance Techniques Needed: Help teach memory skills as they recall numbers.
