ABCs of Teaching

A- Always be AVAILABLE! I will not shut off when the bell rings, I will be present to
students and families at all times.
B- BOAST! I will be proud of every student and everything they accomplish, no matter how
big or small.
C- Courageous. I am outgoing and will be brave and take the risks necessary for my
students to succeed. I will step out of my comfort zone to ensure their progress and
success.
D- Differentiation. Every child is different and learns at a different pace.
Differentiating instruction and implanting small groups is a must to reach all my students!
E- Encouragement. I promise to encourage my students to always do their best and be
their best.
F- FUN! Learning is fun and it is important to me that I capture the fun spirit while
teaching the standards.
G- Guidance. Guiding students to the bigger picture life and letting them become who they
want to be with a little guidance from me as their teacher can lead to success.
H- Honesty. Always being honest with families and students. It is not okay to sugar coat
serious issues happening in the classroom. Honesty is the best police to build relationships
with parents.
I- Interaction. Every interaction counts, whether its on your good day or your bad day.
Those interactions will stick with students forever (bad or positive).
J- Joy. There is nothing that brings me more joy than seeing my students learn and make
progress!
K- Kindness. A little bit of kindness goes a long way!
L- Laugh! I believe laughter is the best medicine! You cant let everything bring you down-
laugh it off!
M- Moments. The light bulb moment is my favorite! Finally seeing a student understand
and seeing the moment when it clicks is one of the reasons I love being a teacher! Its just
to cool to see that I helped do that for that student!
N- Be NATURAL. Being myself lets my students see a personal side to me, I dont teach
using written text from a book, I put things in my own terms and terms that are easily
relatable to my students.
O- Order. Maintaining order and routine in my classroom will help cut down on some of the
discipline problems. My students need to know that I am in charge and although Im all for
democracy and voting in my classroom, I am the teacher and what I say is the final word.
P- Preparation. Teaching comes with a lot of preparation to make your day run smoothly. I
am prepared to always be prepared and to always have a plan B.
Q- Questions. Always be prepared for a million questions, no matter what grade youre
teaching! If its one thing I have learned, it is that to my students, I know all the answers
and I am constantly answering questions. Its also important to let students know that no
question is a bad question!
R- Relationships. Building relationships with students, families and staff are critical. I
plan to maintain all relationships in whatever means necessary in the best possible way for
each family and co-worker.
S- Smile! Smiles are contagious! If I am happy and smiling my students will, too!
T- Technology. I love technology and it is so engaging for students! They love to learn new
things on it and so do I!
U- Understanding. As a teacher in an elementary grade where parents are the main source
of information and communication for our students, I think that a good sense of
understanding is key. Parents will be parents, but understanding that my students have to
rely on them and are not yet able to be independent is something to remember.
Understanding that parents do the best they can most of the time is also something to
remember.
V- Vibrant. Being vibrant and active as the teacher in my classroom will energize my
students and help encourage them to do more and to do better. Students copy their
teachers, so if I am excited, active and vibrant, my students will be as well!
W- Warmth. My students need to know that I care about them and they arent just my
students. By showing them warmth and love I am able to build relationships and allow my
students to take the risks necessary to learn.
X- X-cited! Being excited about teaching and learning will encourage me to keep learning
from my students every day!
Y- Young. Teaching a young grade will keep me young and up to date with the newest
standards, forms of technology and ways to teach my class!
Z- Zest. I like to zest things up by being different and letting my students experience
and discover new things! I feel that I have what it takes to teach out future!
