II. Before you start
Prerequisite knowledge and skills.

Nothing
Assessment
(formative and summative)

Formative, I will be assessing as the students respond to my questions. Summative, I am
sending home a fitness log, that my students need to fill out with all the activity that they do.
Identify those students
(individuals or groups) in your
class who will need special
attention and describe the level of
support you plan on giving them.
Refer back to the survey you did
of your class.
I will be including all my students. If some students dont seem to be engaged, I will have
them break down into groups to respond to my questions.
Materials-what materials (books,
handouts, etc) do you need for this
lesson and do you have them?

Chart Paper, music player: cd player or computer or iPod, song I like to Move it.

Do you need to set up your
classroom in any special way for
this lesson? If so, describe it.

Development
Ask children why they think it is important to exercise, or be physically active. What does exercise do for
the body? What does it do for the mind? How does it make a person feel afterwards? Record childrens

ideas on chart paper.
Go over some of the benefits of exercise:
1) Reduces the risk of heart disease, which may include obesity, physical inactivity, high blood
pressure, and high cholesterol
2) Helps you maintain a normal body weight
3) Helps you sleep better
4) Reduces some of the effects of aging
5) Makes one feel better about oneself
6) Can relieve stress
7) Can help you perform better in school
8) Can relieve anxiety
9) Can prevent injuries from occurring
10) Can keep you and your heart healthy

5 min Closure

Ask students why it is important to have physical activity? Especially in relation to our faith (if at a
Christian school). Tie in the Bible verses: 1 Timothy 4:8 and 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Your reflection on the lesson including ideas for improvement for next time:
