Math: Unit 9
In Unit 9 students learn about Coordinates, Area, Capacity, and Volume. Students will be
plotting ordered pairs on graphs, calculating area, capacity, and volume, and exploring
transformations in all of the topics above. Please check out the Everyday Math Site for more
information.
The Unit 9 test is on Tuesday. Students will review for the test on Monday. On Wednesday we will
start Unit 10: Using Data and Algebra. Unit 10 will be our last unit of the year.

Students did great on the MAP test. I was so proud of their growth this year. It is a
testament to their hard work!

Mariana Motto will be coming to our room once a week until the end of the school year to help
ease the students transition to 6th grade.

Congratulations to Olda, Enzo, and Gabi CM for winning the Giant awards!

Business Day is May 30th. Students should be preparing for it at home. They will have some
class time, but the majority of preparation will be at home.
Science:
In Science we will conduct experiments about gravity. Last week we learned what gravity is
and this week we will test it. We will do a class experiment and then students will do different
experiments in small groups.
Language arts:
This week we will review all the Reading Street skills and strategies of Unit 5 through activities
on Holes, the book we are reading. Students will review generalizing, cause and effect, plot and
character, summarizing, questioning, inferring and graphic sources. We will also have mini-
lessons on the grammar of Unit 5 during Writers Workshop.
From May 22-27 students should take the Unit 5 Reading Street test online at home. Students
can use the internet as a resource.
