Primary School
Foundation Stage Handbook
September 201
!elcome "o Princess Frederica CE VA Primary School
We welcome you and your child to Princess Frederica Primary School in the year of our
125
th
anniversary. We hope this booklet will answer some of the questions you may have
before your child starts school in September.
any of you with older children already in the school
may be familiar with this information! but please do
read it carefully. "here may be procedures that have
chan#ed! that you may have for#otten! or indeed! never
knew. Please keep this booklet in con$unction with
future correspondence from the school as a reference.
Startin# school is a very bi# step for your child and for
you. "he way your child settles into school is very
important and we do our best to help each child come to
school happily and en$oy learnin# here. "herefore it is
important to establish a partnership with our parents to achieve this aim.
"he class teacher and %S& will be the most important people at the school for your child.
Worries that children have out of school can affect them in school. Please keep the
teacher informed of any problems your child is havin#! whether or not they are connected
with school. 'ou may also wish to talk to the Welfare officer! (irector of "eachin# and
%earnin# for the Foundation Sta#e or )eadship team.

Preparing your child #or school
"he followin# are some thin#s you can do to ensure a smooth transition for your child!
buildin# on their confidence in preparation for startin# a new school or movin# into a new
class. *onfident children are less an+ious! about both bi# and little activities and chan#es
that happen durin# the school day and can concentrate on the positive aspects of life.
E$en i# your child has been to nursery be#ore% please read these points care#ully&
'e#ore your child starts school
"alk to your children about the name of the school and the teacher! the colour of
the uniform! the thin#s that you saw from the open day i.e. paintin#! sand! bicycles
etc.
Please encoura#e your child to #o to the toilet without adult help. Some little boys
#et confused about usin# the urinals we have at school ,for -eception only.! so a trip
to a public toilet with dad or bi# brother could save accidents.
Please encoura#e your child to dress and undress with as little help as possible to
enable them to become independent. *hildren feel more confident when they can
take off their own coat and $umper and then han# it up on their pe#.
Please make sure that fastenin#s on clothes are as simple as possible and that your
child can mana#e them. /lasticised waists ,especially if your child needs the loo
quickly0. are better than buttons and 1ips. Shoes with velcro fastenin#s are much
easier than lace up shoes. Please bear this in mind if you are buyin# new clothin#
before startin# school.
Please name A(( clothin# with first and last name! your child may not be the only
23anet4 or 23ohn4 in the class0 Some school clothin# is very e+pensive to replace if
lost. 5t is much easier to find a lost item if it has your child4s name on it.
%astly! but most importantly! please talk to your child in a positive way and try and
hide any worries you may have. 5t is only natural for you to have mi+ed emotions as
a parent! especially for those of you for whom this may be your first e+perience.
-emember school is very e+citin#0

that a note is sent to the class teacher to e+plain the absence upon your child4s return.
