America on Imperialism

Imperialism is the creation and/or maintenance of an unequal economic,
cultural, and territorial relationships, usually between states and often in the form
of an empire, based on domination and subordination as defined by the Dictionary
of Human Geography.
After the Spanish- American War the United States gained political control of
Cuba because of the Platt Amendment, and Puerto Rico became a territory along
with Guam, and the Philippines. The role of the United States was reversed.
The United States as a new country had to fight for independence against a
world power, Great Britain. The Colonies dislike Great Britain for fighting over
control of the United States. Since then, the United States gained control of these
small countries. The United States now has become the world power. The countries
the United States had conquered such as the Philippines had already been civilized
for many years. After the United States helped fight Spain for their independence,
the Unites States just puts the countries back into the same position they were in
previously.
The United States was fighting itself for equal rights between minorities and
women. The Philippines had inherited equal right before Spanish rule, the thought
of the United States diminishing their rights after the three mouth war. The
Philippines are put in the same position before the war.
