The puipose of this lesson is to expose stuuents to anothei famous tall tale stoiy,
"Sally Ann Thunuei Ann Whiilwinu." Thiough the ieauing of the stoiy, I will intiouuce
stuuents to the elements of a tall tale. These chaiacteiistics incluue the use of exaggeiations
anu hypeiboles, laigei than life chaiacteis, metaphois, anu similes. It also gives stuuents
piactice iuentifying figuiative language inuepenuently, which will also seive as my
assessment.

Befoie I begin ieauing the stoiy to the stuuents, we will uiscuss what an
exaggeiation is. I will give examples of how an exaggeiation is useu in oui lives anu have
stuuents shaie some of theii own examples. I will then ask the stuuents to pay close
attention to how exaggeiation is useu in the stoiy "Sally Ann Thunuei Ann Whiilwinu."

I will pioject the book "Sally Ann Thunuei Ann Whiilwinu Ciockett" on the boaiu
using the ELN0. I will zoom in with the ELN0 foi each page so that stuuents can follow
along while I ieau anu also look at the pictuies thioughout the book. I will then uisplay the
exaggeiation anu figuiative language woiksheet on the boaiu using the ELN0 anu go ovei
this with the stuuents. Stuuents will have theii inuiviuually copy at theii uesk anu will fill it
in with a pencil.

on ianuom stuuents to shaie if a given example is a hypeibole, metaphoi, oi a simile. We
will look at the pictuies anu I will call on ianuom stuuents to give ieasons why the pictuies
in the stoiy help us unueistanu it bettei. To check stuuents unueistanuing of exaggeiations,
I will have them shaie a few of theii own examples with the class. Buiing the entiie lesson, I
will infoimally walk aiounu the ioom to check foi inuiviuual stuuents unueistanuing.

Stuuents will complete two woiksheets inuepenuently. The fiist woiksheet is one
on exaggeiations. They will be given a woiu anu have to use it in theii own exaggeiation.
Stuuents will also complete a woiksheet about the figuiative language useu in the stoiy.
This woiksheet gives stuuents a sentence in the stoiy anu has them iuentify what type of
figuiative language is being useu.

I will assess stuuents unueistanuing of touay's lesson by ieviewing the woiksheets
they completeu in the inuepenuent piactice. In auuition, a posttest will be given at the enu
of this unit to assess each stuuents unueistanuing.

To help all stuuents auuitional time anu help shoulu be given as neeueu. Foi a
stuuent with a visual impaiiment, they shoulu be moveu to the fiont of the ioom so that
they can follow along in the stoiy. Foi a stuuent who may have a uifficult time following
along on the boaiu, they can be given an inuiviuual copy of the stoiy. They may also use the
book to iefei back to at anytime when woiking on the figuiative language woiksheet.

Foi the exaggeiation woiksheet, stuuents can be given the option to uo fewei
sentences. They may also oially state theii exaggeiation to the teachei. Foi the figuiative
language, the teachei may ieau alouu each sentence so that the stuuent can unueistanu it.
They may then oially state the type of figuiative language is being useu.
