The Garden As Art

Art that best helps us understand a culture and its values

Sarah Jordan
Why Gardens?
Gardens are one of the best ways to understand the
society and cultural traditions in which they were made
and should be considered a form of art.
I define art as man made; it must be filtered through
mans mind and vision, and requires skill, intent (there is
a purpose), and must evoke an emotional reaction.
Gardens are art.
Gardens Can Be Works of
Art
Yes. Why? Because:
1. Experimentation with colors like painters
2. Design and shapes like sculptors
3. Envision how light affects the garden
throughout the day such as a photographer
(If not a photographer then as a painter)
