This document provides information on the chemical composition, available dimensions, and properties of 20MnCr5 case-hardened steel produced by Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH. The steel has a carbon content between 0.170-0.220% and is available as hot-rolled coils and slit strip in various thicknesses from 2.00-12.70mm and widths from 100-1750mm. When hot- or cold-rolled and case-hardened, the steel is predominantly used for transmission parts. The hot-rolled steel offers good punching quality and formability, and after case-hardening the finished components have a strong core and wear-resistant surface.

The hot-rolled steels offer good punching quality and formability. After case-hardening, the finished compo- nents have a very strong core, whereas the surface is characterised by good wear resistance. As the melting and hot-rolling condi- tions have an effect on further treatment at the customer, the customer should al- ways state the intended use when plac- ing an order. Condition of delivery, scope of testing and certicate The provisions of EN 10084, chapters 6.4.1 und 7 shall apply for delivery and inspection. All case-hardened steels are delivered in a hot-rolled and untreated condition.
